Great food, ambiance and service! 3/7/2012

We had reservations for 4pm on a Wednesday night @ 715 (made the reservations an hour beforehand). There was a 20 minute wait for outside so we decided to sit inside immediately. The room we sat in was large so it was loud, but the service was quick. Our table ordered steak and seafood, all dishes were cooked perfectly. For 4 of us (no drinks) the bill was $100. I would definitely come back! more

Terrible experience 12/24/2011

made a wedding party reservtion two months early, messed up, overcharged for crab legs due to holiday, filet steak ordered medium came out charred on outside raw inside, $350 later left very unhappy. Will not do again, and we're local. more

Awful Service, Mediocre food 3/26/2011

I would say this restaurant was the worst dining experience I have had in years! The waitress was rude. She took forever to take our orders and then brought out an obviously wrong drink and blamed the bartender. Our sushi appetizer came out and we ate it without chopsticks or soy sauce because she didn't bring those out until 20-30 minutes after the sushi was placed on our table. The entrees then came out at the same time as the salads. First, one entree that was supposed to be plain sea bass came out with crab on time and the waittress told us ""oh, they just oscar-ed it, i can clean it off."" She never apologized or offered a new entree. Next, she had the audacity to ask us if we could tell the difference between the grouper and the mahi-mahi (at a fish restaurant!) and held them out to us. Again, she blamed the runner for not labeling the entrees. When we complained to the manager, he again made several excuses and never once apologized. They took off the price of the oscar part of the fish dish but did not comp the entree! In terms of food, the sushi was good but the entrees were mediocre at best. The only redeeming feature of the restaurant is that it is absolutely beautiful on the water. more

Thanks but no thanks 5/23/2010

I visited today (5/24/10) for sunday brunch. I was not impressed with the spread of food and even less impressed with the service. The waiters and the station staff are indifferent about their job, they do not deliver good customer service and act put out when you ask for service. The food is anything you can put out yourself at home if you are into entertaining. And if you do not live in clearwater (as I don't), it is definitely not worth the drive going there. My vote is Two thumbs down, way down. It is amazing that people keep going to this place when the service is sooooooooooooo bad! Pros: Only $21 for sunday brunch Cons: Terrible service more

Great food, not so great service! 4/10/2009

We were there tonight for a party. The food is consistently wonderful, the service is awful. Rude and act as if they're being put out to get things. Pros: Example: best croissants in town Cons: What are the drawbacks? more

Good Food, Bad Service 11/26/2008

Food is good, not great. If something says ""MARKET PRICE"" , be sure what to ask what the price is. We paid $40 for Florida lobster, in Florida, during Lobster season with a side of mashed potatoes and house plant leaf. Definitely not a quiet night out for dinner, the restaurant is extremely loud even if only slightly crowded the acoustics are so bad that you can barely have a conversation without yelling. Service was mediocre at best. Maybe Bob was just having a bad night, but we had to wait and wait and wait for everything and he never anticipated our needs. Would I recommend this place to a friend? Probably not. Pros: The restaurant has really nice decor and friendly hostesses. Cons: Everything else. more

Delcious & very fresh sushi; flavorfull steaks 11/7/2008

Whether you order sushi, cooked seafood or steak, the food is delicious. Located on the water, the outside seating provides a relaxing atmosphere. Inside dining is a bit noisy and tables are too close together. I recommend sitting outside, weather permitting. more

Going Downhill 7/14/2008

I visit the Clearwater area about 5 times a year for work. This place used to be a staple when I came to the area. However the quality of the food and service has become lax and I think they rely too much on reputation than the product they offer. Pros: Views Cons: Poor Quality more

AWESOME! 8/11/2007

Great Restaurant. I travel alot and eat at some of the best restaurants in the country as I was very impressed with Island Grill. Five of us eat there including 2 children. We had a reservation and were sat as soon as we walked in. Very impressed that they had a childrens surf and turf on the menu. Waiter was great. As soon as he brought drinks they has a power cut. The whole of clearwater beach was out. The waiter recommended that we order sushi and cold apps first and then moved as outside so not to be over come by the heat. We happened to pick on of the hottest days to eat!..We sat ourside..had great French wine..oysters, shrimp and sushi. Get the Island way roll..very good..we had two..The waiter kept us updated on the power situation and was wonderful. When the power came on we orders, lamb, the seafood mix grill, steak, lobster and King crab..What can I say we hadnt eaten all day. The food was incredible..the washi mash potatoes are awesome..I had the kona lamb and it was to die for..definately will go their again. Dont waste your money on Ruth's, the Palms or Shula's..This place is great! Pros: Awesome food..great service Cons: Valet is busy.. more

Best Seafood and steak on the beach 11/11/2006

If you are looking for that fine dine seafood place with their own wine cellar and tropical yet classy ambience, then you have found the right place. I love going here for the romantic and modern restaurant that is near the beach and also over looks the water. They also have outdoor seating that is on the water. The food here is the best seafood and steak I have ever had while dining on the beach. You will enjoy this place for any special occasions and also for most holidays. They have special menu's that are great for the whole family. You also would enjoy the Sunday brunch, which is buffet style with food that is out of this world, from peel and eat shrimp, sushi, your traditional breakfast foods, eggs benedict, and fresh fruit, cheese and crackers, and endless desserts and so much more. You also get one free glass of champagne or mimosas with the brunch. I would highly recommend this place to everyone!!! Pros: Valet parking more

Quiet? No. Worth Trying? Absolutely. 10/31/2006

Definitely one of the most *spirited* upscale dining experiences you'll encounter, but if you know that ahead of time, just go and have fun. You'll find that it only takes a few minutes for the ""noise"" to fade into the background and you can just enjoy your party. I would still recommend this for a romantic spot, because the sunset views are gorgeous, but definitely try for a window seat. On the downside, we've never had great service here and yet we return again and again -- that's a testament to the food, which is unbelievably good. Splurge and try the king crab and lobster, though the steaks are delicious too. more

So so seafood and a smarmy waiter 4/14/2006

Waiter with attitude and scallops I could use as hockey pucks in a noisy room. Not my idea of a good time. more

A really lovely place to go for a special occasion. The food was a little pricey, but was absolutely delicious with lovely presentation. Service was excellent. Lovely atmosphere with outside dining. Inside dining was noisy and there were alot of tables very close together which made it a little too close for my comfort. But overall it was a fabulous experience. Pros: View, outside dining, location Cons: noisy, crowded inside more

Do not recommend 2/8/2006

I can handle background noise and am NOT picky at all, but this was the loudest restaraunt I have been to in recent memory. The 4 of us at our table had to SHOUT the entire meal to hear each other. It was so loud because of the diners being so close together, the music and all the talking. The floors are all tile and hardwood and no matter how good the food is, just too loud of a place to eat. The food was good, but for the prices, I would want to be able to talk while I was eating. I won't eat there again. Very disappointed. Pros: good food Cons: LOUD, noisy, high prices, small portions more

Wish I'd read Maria2525's review before going! 3/6/2005

We had a reservation but still waited 1 hour at the bar before being seated. It was our 10th year anniversary so we were assured we'd get a romantic seat and it would be worth the wait. Wait staff and bar staff very snooty. It was difficult to get a drink at the bar, we waited about 20 mins before placing our order, and the wine prices are OUTRAGEOUS! The glasses were dirty w/food and lipstick on them, the wine had cork in it and was $12/glass. The restaurant is like a cafeteria and the seating is very tight. We had to shout to be heard. Unfortunately it was NOT ROMANTIC like the review or hostess stated. If you want to wait for an overly priced, overly salted dinner, served on dirty plates and glasses by snotty staff this is your place. more
