Horning's Roadside Market

Came upon this store after hearing from a friend that the prices are low and that most products are nearing expiration dates. Decided to visit this store and just kind of looked around not paying much attention to the prices and then, Wow! I got a cart and got a few great bargins for the day. There were some expired products but often those products are still good after the date. They have very good prices, the box might be dented but a steal of a deal. I saw cream of wheat for 19 cents. What a deal!! If you’re on a tight budget this is a great start to shop at. The store was very crowed and carts loaded with items. The deli was busy with many customers getting meats and cheese. This was a great find for the day. Off the beaten path of course. more

Although you have to check the dates on items, you can find great prices on tons of items. The lunch meat goes so fast it is always fresh and the prices are outstanding. We make a trip from up near Pottsville to stock up on laundry and paper items as well as the lunch meat. The produce in season is local and usually wonderful. As to the outdated items, I have found them in my local grocery stores as well as other so-called bargain grocery outlets. You just have to be a careful shopper. The staff is friendly and very helpful. The store is always crowded which shows what a good place it is. more

Me and my husband have been going to Hornings for 2 years now. We have 2 children still living with us,and we can use all the help with the grocery bill we can get. This is a great place to save alot of money. Some of the items are out dated, but I take my time when in this store and watch what I buy. Where else can you get Tide detergent for $4.99? They use their own bottles I think because they get damaged name brands and have to put them in other containers. My children and I are highly allergic to other detergents except tide, so I know I am buying the real thing here.I also get my fabric softeners dish detergents, bath and cleaning supplies too.Their lunchmeats are great prices too. I have told all my friends and family about this store, they come from near and far to shop. If you want to save money,this is the place to go..... more

Seemed like a great place!! Everyone said they had great prices. I started loading up my cart. Canned goods for like .25cents, boxed dinners for .69cents and so on. Then I got out my glasses and noticed everything that was a bargin was EXPIRED!!!! They are selling expired food!! I didn't think a store could do that. I did find that some of the soaps and laundry detergent was a pretty good price, so I went with the non food Items. I will probably not return . more

The best little "big" grocery store around. Lunch meat and cheeses at prices you won't believe. Almost half the price of other stores. The staff is friendly and courteous. Please wear modest clothing if going shopping. The staff and owners are Mennonite. So out of respect I usually wear a skirt, but others wear shorts, etc. But please don't wear halter or tube tops. That would upset me tremendously. Other things are priced so low that you'll faint when you see them. You might even hear one of the employees singing. They make sandwiches at the deli counter, and eveyone orders around lunch time. Just fill out the little slips on the counter, leave, go do your shopping, and when you're done just pick them up, check them out with your groceries and continue home with a great, freshly made sandwich on your choice of white or wheat roll - yum!
