We are very impressed with Dr. Mike . He explains the procedures and truly cares about animals. His daughter , a vet, was also excellent when she treated our dog , Liza. He is the BEST vet ! We have used other vets and there is no comparison !!!! more

Your Pet is in Great Hands! 12/14/2011

Dr. Mike is the best around! I conveniently used Homewood Animal Hospital when one of my dogs got ran over. I needed a place close to work so I could drop him off and pick him up within business hours. I will not use another vet now! Dr. Mike is very compassionate and does an awesome job! I have never had to wait long to see him, office staff is great and friendly, prices are reasonable, and they are open later than most offices. You won't regret going to see him! more

I am very particular about who I trust my very spoiled, 4 year old shih tzu to. I have tried several different vets, but no one is as caring, dedicated and kind as Dr. Mike Kilgore. Recently, I had to drop my Clare off there, while I had an appointment. I usually wait for her, but was rushing that day. When I came to retrieve her, she was calm and happy and alll the sudden interested in socializing with the other dogs in the waiting area. I was amazed at the change in her and I'd only been gone 2 hours. Anyway, I have to go up to Mayo Clinic in MN. for a week-10 days in July. The family she typically stays with will be vacationing, but I felt completely confident about deciding to board her at Homewood Animal Hospital:) She will probably enjoy all the activity there and the staff are all huge animal lovers. WONDERFUL, CARING, HONEST, KNOWLEDGABLE VET! 3/15/2011

Dr. Mike is FABULOUS. He's been our vet for almost 14 years, and we followed him from another practice to his own practice. Dr. Mike is not only a knowledgeable vet, but he is extremely caring and warm-- both with animals and people. I trust Dr. Mike completely-- he never suggests procedures or medicines you don't truly need; he always acts in the best of interest of your pet. I've been through well-checkups, boarding, a few surgeries, and even had him help with a friend's sick animal when she was out of town. He later sent her a sweet note after her cat had to be put to sleep. We can't recommend Dr. Mike highly enough. He is such a special, quality person and doctor. more

GREAT doctor who cares about his patients! 11/4/2010

I came in recently with a cat who was exhibiting very alarming symptoms with her urinary tract. I called in and received an appointment the same day. Dr. Mike kindly assuaged my fears, administered treatment, and gave me detailed instructions on how to care for my cat's symptoms. The visit was reasonably priced (FAR lower than what I have paid at other animal hospitals), and he didn't order extra procedures or unnecessary tests, saving me time and money! This visit was a very positive experience for me and my cat...she usually hates vets but was surprisingly calm around him! If you're looking for someone who LISTENS and CARES about his patients, Homewood Animal Hospital is the right place for you! :) more

Dr. Mike & Comany Are Awesome! 6/18/2010

This is hands down the best vet I have ever been to, in Birmingham and elsewhere. The hours are great, I have never had to wait long, and like many others here have stated, the staff here is superb and want to help you. Dr. Mike (and everyone else) is awesome and I highly, highly recommend taking your pets to him. more

Best vet in Birmingham 3/7/2010

We lived in Birmingham for years and all our pets, 1 cat and 4 afghans, went to Dr. Mike. He has extensive knowledge of sighthounds as well. We moved away from Birmingham and are going to miss him. Pros: straight, to the point, honest, friendly, sensible more

Best Vet I know 11/2/2009

Dr. Mike is a long drive from my home, but when one of my pets needs care, he's worth the drive into Birmingham. I met him through my best friend (another cat lady) and my boss who both think of him as the best there is. When one of my cats needed care, along with a cat I was caring for, I brought both to Dr. Mike. His gentle intelligent treatment of both the cats and me (I was very worried about one animal's condition won my loyalty forever after. Pros: Kind, thoughtful, intelligent, good with people too more

Thumbs Up! 5/11/2009

I carried My Maltesse in for a spay and Dr. mike called me while He had Her out for surgery. He offered to go ahead and remove her baby teeth that had not came out in spite of the adult teeth coming in. He saved me a lot of money by doing it while She was already asleep. Also, I took her in this morning at 8;00am and She is now by My side at 4pm.. Kudo's Dr. Mike! Pros: Very caring , efficiant, reasonable, trustworthy more

Dr. Mike is the vet you want to take care of your pet! 4/22/2008

We have six dogs who ?found? us - ages 2 to 14 - and Dr. Mike is wonderful. We have had dogs for over 35 years now and have lived from Mobile to Fairhope to Pensacola to Homewood. Dr. Mike is the BEST vet we have ever had and we have had some good vets. We tried three highly recommended clinics when we moved here before we found him--one phone call/interview was all it took! He cares not only about the pets but the ""parents"" as well. Pros: Cares for pets and their keepers, reasonable rates, wonderful with difficult pets! Cons: None! more

Very nice vet 4/8/2008

I am a new pet owner, and Dr. Mike made me feel so much better after my first visit. One of my girls got sick and he was fabulous. I brought both of my dogs in and he was great with both of them. It was a good introduction to the world of dog visits to the vet. I had to take them to their old vet, after visiting Dr. Mike, to get their records and was treated the exact opposite. If you live in the Birmingham area and have pets you love, I suggest taking them to Dr. Mike. Pros: Nice vet and affordable. Cons: The cat wandering around cause it drove my dogs crazy. more

No better care for pets 10/15/2007

I LOVE Dr. Mike. He takes wonderful care of my pets and also has great people skills. He knows my name, as well as the mannerisms of my pet. Dr. Mike listens to pet owners and will never recommend you to some unnecessary, overpriced treatment. You get the sense that the man truly loves animals and knows his veterinary science, but he recognizes how important it is to see what the owner knows about behavior changes, etc. since those can be even more important than symptoms. A great vet who cares about the animals. He helped us out when no one else would and we were in a rough situation and our dogs life was in danger. We will continue to take all of our animals there! Wonderful experience! more
