Homestyle Midwifery is unlike any other experience I have had with the healthcare/medical professional community. They are truly loving, nurturing, patient, and professional, during one of the most significant events a woman can go through. They go above and beyond in so many ways: - Appointments are not rushed - most of my appointments were 30-60 minutes and I could ask as many questions as I wanted and talk about whatever was on my mind related to my pregnany - Appointments are more frequent - I got to know all the midwives and had lots of opportunities to ask questions - They offer group meetings/appointments (in addition to your individual appointments) with other women with your due date to enable community and to share things that go beyond the clinical end of things to the more spiritual - They not only support doulas, but require you to use one - They provide in-home care - they visit you both before the birth to review your birth plan in your own home, as well as a post partum visit a few days after the birth to check in with you - They support you to have whatever kind of birth you want - they enabled me to have an amazing, natural (no intervention) birth, but are also not judgemental in the least if you end up wanting or needing an epidural - No triage! - When you arrive at the hospital - a midwife meets you and takes you right to your private labor and delivery room - no waiting and no paperwork while you're in the throes of labor (it's all done in advance) -- why doesn't every OB/Gyn group do it this way???!! You get nurturing, highly personalized midwifery care, but in a hospital in case anything goes wrong - it is the best of both worlds!!! Homestyle is everything that that you could hope for as a pregnant and/or new parent. The care that is provided by homstyle midwifery is so wonderful, they give you what you need on your terms and make offerings of support that you didn't realize that you needed. The Homestyle team are all warm and generous people that remember your name (and your baby's), and treat you like a human with a heart, not a number in a large hospital. The birth of our son was by far the most amazing experience of my and my husband's lives and we owe that in large part to the homestle team, for their individual care and the preparation that they provided for us. What I wanted for the birth of my baby: 1. To know the person who was going to catch my newborn 2. To be left alone if I wanted and not have a bunch of people in my business 3. To not be on anyone's schedule but my own 4. For my pregnancy/birth to be treated as normal, not as a sickness With Homestyle we got all of this and more. We got community support, caregivers who were professional and experienced and attentive. And we got a visit from our midwife at home when our son was 3 days old. It was great that we were able to have a birth on our terms, in a peaceful setting, with personalized care in the safety of a hospital. YAY Homestyle. more

Homestyle was the best experience for my wife and I. We both wanted a natural childbirth but were afraid of accepting any unnecessary risk of a homebirth. Yeshi and everyone at Homestyle were more than lovely. The home visits helped them learn our values in our home and helped build a trusting relationship. The birthing experience was also fantastic. Annie had had a natural childbirth at Kaiser. But that was because of our vigilence in keeping the strong desire of the Hospital to intervene at bay. With homestyle, we were allowed to focus on the experience rather than having to question every intervention. At every step, Yeshi was there for us, assisting with Annie's physical needs and her emotional ones, as well. The experience was beautiful and empowering and showed us that our bodies are remarkable, if we let them be. Pros: The best care, just simply the best care for you, your body, your child, and your peace of mind. Cons: Not the cheapest birth. But the best rarely is. more

Every pregnant woman deserves the care, support and love what Homestyle Midwifery offers. They provide exceptional prenatal, birth and postpartum care. I transferred to Homestyle Midwifery because I wanted to give birth as intervention free as it is possible, but in a hospital setting. My expectations and what Homestyle Midwifery offers seemed to meet. Giving birth to our baby was an amazing experience for us. I am a doula, a childbirth educator and a student midwife. I have had many clients choose to work with Homestyle Midwifery over the years. I have attended well over 100 hospital births with many care providers and Homestyle is the ONLY hospital practice that truly supports natural childbirth with more than lip service. Homestyle is unique compared to any other hospital practice. They provide a mother, baby and family friendly atmosphere where birth is viewed as much more than just the physical act of laboring and pushing a baby out. I gotta say, these women are the best thing going! No other practice could guarantee me I would even know the person at my birth. At Homestyle, you get to know all the midwives (one of them even comes to your home!) before your delivery, and then the midwife on call at the time of your birth labors with you. There's no need for a written "birth plan," because they know you and your needs before you give birth. I think it's also worth mentioning that Homestyle supports whatever kind of birth you want to have. I was a little skeptical about the whole touchy-feely vibe of the practice at first, and ambivalent about being able to achieve an unmedicated birth. Homestyle respected that. They were not pushing any agenda. As Yeshi said to me, with a mischievous twinkle in her eye (and this is when I knew I loved her), "We won't talk to you about 'creating a sacred space' for your birth, but we might go about quietly creating one anyway." I did, unbelievably, go on to have a totally unmedicated birth in a quiet, undisturbed space. It was awesome, and I can't recommend Homestyle more highly. Homestyle Midwifery is an amazing group that I would recommend to ANY woman and her partner wishing for a unhurried, warm, safe, and caring childbirth experience. Yeshi, Michelle and the team combine the best of midwifery (woman- and child-based care, lots of group interactions, home visits, insistence that you have a caring doula and do much of your laboring at home), with the safety of a hospital setting and wonderful backup OBs in case an emergency intervention is needed. Yeshi has this amazing record of allowing some huge % of those in her care to give birth naturally, sans interventions. We were able to have a natural childbirth, despite our son being 'sunny-side-up' and me having 26.5 hours of significant back-labor, with no tearing and a very fast recovery. More importantly, Yeshi and the team honored MY wishes, helped me and my husband prepare for this important event with resources and training, as I had been simply terrified of birth and assumed I'd need intervention(s). During labor, they had all sorts of 'tricks' to get our baby out (birthing tub, etc.), without ever pushing interventions (though they were available had I wanted them). We plan to have our 2nd child with the Homestyle team. Highly, highly, highly recommended - I honestly don't know why any thinking woman would want to give birth any other way! Pros: Highly trained, experienced midwives who focus on the woman's wishes Cons: Like all medical providers...can have long wait times for office visits. more

The Homestyle Midwifery group offers couples the most unique and intimate care to be found outside of having a homebirth. Our experience with these wonderful midwives was outstanding from start to finish. We transferred from UCSF, because we felt our care was not personal enough and our questions and concerns were too time consuming to be addressed. What a huge difference we experienced with Homestyle. Walking into the office for our prenatal care we were not just greeted by name, but made to feel like our pregnancy was something to be celebrated. Our visits were thorough, personal and satisfying. And our birth was the most magnificent experience we have ever had. We will be forever grateful to the midwives of Homestyle for taking such care of us and for providing us the opportunity to have our daughter arrive in such a peaceful way.
