Editorial review from Citysearch 10/21/2012

Jim Yungner is a scumbag. I got that intitial feeling about him when we first met but ignored it. It was wrong to do that. We did an ETF on bank card for paying on the membership. It was a ""lifetime"" rate of 29.99 a month. Several times he tried in earnest to change the contract. Eventually he told me that he was getting sick of his customers 'nickle and dimeing him out of business and that he was going to sell. He was implying that I was one of these people 2 years into my ""lifetime membership"". I decided to cancel with him face to face and we agreed it was done. I don't want take anyone's money and nickle and dime them! Right? WRONG! He didn't cancel and I didn't watch my bank account for around 6 months. I thought this was settled and called him and he told me I was still a member there. I reminded him of everything and he told me that technically we were still within contractual agreement. I was very surprised that he did this and told him stop charging me! He told me the only way to cancel is to send him a registered letter in writing of my wishes to cancel my membership! I had to change my bank account! Beware! This guy is as crooked as his teeth! more

Excellent staff, no pushy sales 3/14/2009

Prior to going to The Gym I checked out 6 other facilities and all had extremely pushy sales staff. One place even said ""this is like a car dealership"" when talking about their packages, referring to the amount of haggling I would have to do in order to get a good deal. I encountered typical phrases like ""I'm locked into their computer system"" and ""this is a today only offer"" in order to pressure me into signing up on the spot.\r \r I didn't have to worry about any of this at The Gym because they never even brought up pricing until I asked and this was AFTER the full evaluation and free session. The owner (Jim) is the one who ran me through the session and he asked me what my goals were and then made multiple suggestions based on that to best suit my needs and said he would work with me on any pricing aspect to get me started. It was truly no pressure and was a refreshing change from the other clubs/private studios I visited.\r \r I ended up purchasing their top package because it was the #1 most economical value I found in Minnesota for personal training (look for yourself!). Sessions run a full hour (if you want) and are 2-5 times less expensive than any other place (I looked at pricing for at least 20 other places). Let's just say that it costs me more to buy a full tank of gas for my car than it does for 1 hour long session with Jim (and this includes 24 hour access to the gym).\r \r I've only been at The Gym for a week now but I've already noticed improvement and I can't wait to see what I'll look like at the end of my 10 week training regimen. Pros: Every machine and freeweight possible, no waiting on machine Cons: Still some remodeling going on (they are upgrading) more

Best Fitness in Minnesota, On a scale of their own! 6/22/2007

I've been working out for over 25 years, been to hundreds og gyms, fitness center & health clubs, The Gym is by far the best. No one compairs! I watch the staff, They go out of their way to help people out.\r Most places the staff sit around, have no clue what their doing, not at The Gym! The owner & staff are always working with their members and when you hear what they're saying you know they KNOW WHAT THEY""RE TALKING ABOUT! Great equipment! This gym is set up for the lifters. They take care of their members. You can tell its members first! \r \r The one negitave is The Gym is in a 21 year old building. It's old but they keep it clean. The owner, JimYungner, is putting over $1 million dollars into remodeling The Gym this July and once he does this nothing will compare to The Gym! They're even going to 24 hour axcess. \r \r If your looking for a place to get into shape you have to try The Gym out!\r \r Pros: A real gym!! Best equip Gym in Minnesota, Never wait to use it. Ther're doing a $1 million dollar remodeling job this July. Best staff there is. Cons: Older building, smaller locker rooms. But the remodeling will fix these minor problems. more

Great fitness center! 11/16/2006

The Gym in Plymouth is focused on one thing....getting you to where you want to be! Whether its weightloss, health concerns, training for sports or fitness competitions, you have the right people there and right equipment without all the unnecessary fluff you don't need. Tons of equipment, free weights and machines of every make and enough cardio equipment without being overwhelmed. Never have to wait in line to use something and if you need a spot or help using things, the staff is always willing to help. They have the best trainer there who is also the general manager. No fluff, no pretty people prancing and dancing. Love it! I've been a member of many other national clubs and none compare. Check it out! Pros: lots of equipment, expert help, willing staff Cons: parking can be tight when it's busy, small locker rooms more

Great all around gym! 7/24/2005

I've been member of various large health clubs for fifteen years, and can say that The Gym is the best one yet. It's a winner on many levels, including price, convienence, staff support, and equipment. It isn't a ""meat market"" like Northwest, it is very affordable unlike the more private clubs, there is always open equipment, and most of all the staff is genuinely supportive. Pros: Great Staff!, Lots of Parking, Lots of One-on-One Cons: no pool more

serious workout 11/13/2002

The Gym in Plymouth initially impressed me with it's staff! They are friendly and eduacated to suit every type of individual! They Gym is not overly packed, and everyone there is focused and working on their goals. I have been to all of the local gyms in the cities and they are all great in their own way but The Gym in Plymouth actually feels like a gym verses a ""social scene"" I would reccomend this club to anyone! Great Price too!!! Pros: cost, staff, equipment Cons: more cardio machines, better tanning beds more
