Editorial review from Citysearch 8/29/2012

This was the worst dental experience of my life. I've never understood those people who are terrified of dentists UNTIL NOW. I went in to Gray Dental Care for a regular ol' cleaning, etc. Right away I was told that I needed a special, more expensive cleaning. I was so caught off guard, but trusted them (bad, baaaadd on my part), so I went ahead and said ok. Then I was told that they needed to replace an existing filling. I thought this was odd, as I hadn't noticed any problems with that particular tooth, but hey, they know what's best, right? Each step of the way it was an upsell. I felt like I was at a freaking used car dealership. The absolute worst part, though, was when the dentist replaced the filling. WHAT THE CRAP. She was obnoxious, unprofessional, and had the worst attitude. She was ROUGH and continued drilling and yanking at my lip and cheek even when I screamed and told her that I wasn't numb. I left the office feeling very traumatized and in serious pain. I had not had any pain with that tooth/filling before but after I left it continued to get worse and worse. I made an appointment with a different dentist recommended by coworkers and, wouldn't you know it, the filling that Gray Dental ""replaced"" was a mess. I told the new dentist what had happened and they were kind enough to replace it for free. (Note: Once she took out the filling that Dr Gray had put in 6 MONTHS BEFORE, she told me that it was worse than she had even realized and there was decay UNDER Dr Gray's filling. Gross.) I cannot emphasize strongly enough, there is abolutely no excuse for the way I was treated, the hack job I received on my tooth, or the overcharging for services. I wish I would have googled this place before my appointment, as it sounds like others before me have experienced the SAME treatment I received for years. Ridiculous. more

Very good service 3/23/2012

At Gray Dental they did a great job. Service was fast, friendly, and they took good care of my teeth. They were gentle and quick. I had a cleaning and they replaced a filling all in one day, I was out of there in about an hour and a half. I will recommend this places to others. more

DO NOT GO HERE!!! YOU WILL REGRET IT!!! 11/8/2011

I went to Gray Dental with a small occasional toothache. At first glance, Gray seemed like a respectable business ran by a husband/wife team. The husband, Mr. Gray, took 2 separate xrays and finally determined that I had 3 cavities that needed to be filled. During the 45 minutes that I was being worked on by Mr. Gray, he said no more than 3 words to me. This may sound sensitive but when I am at a place as uncomfortable as a dentist office, friendly and polite conversation is expected. When Mr. Gray was finished, he did not say bye, or all finished, or even thank you for your business. He just immediately got up out of his chair without a word, took off his gloves and left the room. How ridiculous is that. However, I could handle it as long as he did a good job and that is where the problem lays. Since my epic experience at Gray Dental with Mr. Gray, my small occasional toothache has turned into a full blown throbbing toothache that has not gone away. I'm in the process of finding a different dentist to fix my tooth. I say all this to warn you, DO NOT GO TO GRAY DENTIST!!!!! YOU WILL REGRET IT!!! Another side note A friend went to Gray Dentist and had Mr. Gray. She had a cavity filled. 5 months later she had the worst toothache and went to a different dentist to get it checked out. Turns out, Mr. Gray did not clean out the cavity and she had to get a root canal. Thank you Gray Dentistry. more

best dentists in nashville 3/9/2010

From the time I walked in the office, everyone was so friendly and put me fears at ease. I have been toseveral dentists in my life and this whole office was out of this world!!! The Hygienist had me laughing and the doctor was gentle and did not overcharge me at all. I have been there 3 times so far and the most I had to wait to get back was 10 minutes. I would recommend this office to all that I know! Pros: extremely friendly Cons: none that i saw more

conscientious dentistry 11/6/2009

I went for the first time, and I found their location and parking convenient. My hygenist was excellent, very thorough but didn't cause me a bit of pain, and I have sensitive teeth. Pros: Caring dentists Cons: Longish wait more

A terrible dental Experience 8/29/2009

I went to Dr. Gray as I had an broken tooth and my new dental HMO assigned me to Gray Dental. I was very grateful that they managed to squeeze me in, even though my tooth wasn't hurting (yet, that is). I went, they took a few x-rays and did a pretty reasonable exam. Then she told me that not only did I need my broken tooth crowned, but I needed all my other fillings replaced with crowns. And I needed another filling. I agreed to have the broken tooth crowned. Then they told me the cost: $800/crown--and that was WITH insurance. The price breakdown gave the normal price as TWICE that much--Almost $1500 per crown! They put on the temporary crown which was extremely painful and remained so for days. Actually, when I went to another dentist for a second opinion, I had to have it fixed. Thankfully, they did a good job putting on the permanent crown--no problems (yet). My second opinion dentist said I didn't need any fillings replaced, nor did I have any cavities in need of filling. He also said the price list was crazy--they slapped a ""room charge"" onto each procedure. Another friend of mine who is a dentist (but doesn't live in Nashville) also said that price breakdown seemed really high. Anyhow, needless to say, I won't be going back. Pros: Dr. Julie Gray was very friendly Cons: Rip-Off, very painful! more
