I LOVE AND HIGHLY recommend Doctor Grant.\r \r She is skilled, and does not sugar coat things.... If you aren't doing the right things to maintain or IMPROVE the health of your eyes.... SHE WILL LET YOU KNOW, and you may not like it...... I know I haven't exactly loved all the things she has said to me over the years, but it's just my pride.....I've been reading all these other posts, about how she doesn't keep staff, or that she isn't ""sociable"", or that if you aren't on time for an appointment she won't see you.\r \r But the thing is, when you go to the eye doctor, you aren't going over to your friend's house for cocktail hour.... she doesn't have to chit chat with you. This is HER business. \r \r Her keeping staff, or not, is really no one's business, and no one really knows how that employee acts. Who she chooses to employ, or how she runs her office, is not your choice.\r \r An appointment is exactly that, an appointment. Any one's time is valuable, and you should always leave early, in time to get some where that you promised to be. I've been going to her for years, and she plans a schedule to get in patients. There is ALWAYS someone leaving when I arrive, and when I am done with my check up, there is someone ALWAYS waiting in the lobby, unless I get the last appointment.\r \r There are laws that Doctor's have to follow, I know that every year, whenever I go to a doctor, whether it be doctor Grant, my OB/GYN.... I HAVE to re-fill out the paperwork, even though my insurance, address and phone haven't changed in ten plus years, but I don't hold that against the doctor.\r \r Dr. Grant is just that, A DOCTOR. Her and I have had mild conversations, nothing too deep, but she has always been polite to me.I can, sometimes see how she can come off a bit cold..... but, please, don't take other people's personality clashes as a reason to not see a skilled doctor. You don't have to be friends with her and go out for dinner afterwards. I have been going to her since I can remember, and I , along with my family.....am ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS taken care of.\r \r So, basically, if you want a doctor, go to Mary Grant, if you want a social butterfly.... good luck and keep looking. more

In 2009, our then eleven year old daughter was referred to Dr. Grant for her help in diagnosing possible eye issues. She had years of recurring headaches and tired eyes after reading for more than 10 minutes (which consequently resulted in a total hatred to read anything). Problem was properly diagnosed (visual efficiency problems...nearsightedness, astigmatism, problems with focusing, tracing and eye teaming). Corrective eyeglasses with a bifocal and a prism became our answer. Dr. Grant's knowledge blew us away, and she had the most wonderful personality while examining our daughter. But it took minutes to see a sharp, leaning toward arrogant personality. Attitude and communication with parents is abrupt, with no tolerance for any interruption. more

Awesome Doctor and very detailed in her work 1/3/2012

Dr. Grant makes going to the eye doctor a very positive experience for your kids. She is very detailed and makes sure your kid gets the best possible results. My oldest daughter had undiagnosed ""lazy eye"" which, when I took her to another doctor who used patching, barely improved. After just a couple new eyeglass prescriptions (refilled for free at Wal Mart), the eyesight in her ""bad"" eye is now approaching 20/40 and we haven't even started vision therapy yet. It was at 20/80 with glasses before I switched my daughter to Dr. Grant and was told they couldn't do anything else to improve her vision. more

Dr. Grant is Amazing!!! 11/30/2011

Wow!!! This lady is awesome. When we found Dr. Grant our 8 year old son was having trouble concentrating, focusing and getting his work done in a timely manner. School and homework were stressful and very difficult. Eight months later, after going through the vision therapy program, school is fun and life is good. Our son is now able to get his work done on time and he is excelling in school. Thank you so much Dr. Grant. You have been a blessing to our family! more

Dr Mary Grant is truly a gift 9/27/2011

When other eye Dr.s either said that to operate is the only option or it's too late to help my little angel in comes Dr. Mary Grant. Coloring outside the lines. Unconventionally coming up with ways to make Sophia's eye not only straighten but to actually function better. Which it has and will continue to. Dr. Grant is perpetually optimistic and direct. She is authentic and unique. If you want a cookie cutter Dr. who will spend their time blowing smoke up your keester don't use her. Stay at the Dr. that you get mad at because they won't prescribe the Amoxicillin you have decided was best for your child. If you want a caring, professional, problem solver use Dr. Grant more

She has her ways but is very effective. 6/23/2011

I have to disagree about Dr Grant's social skills. It is true she has her ways, and sometimes they are even different from mine! But my son with severe problems with academics has made great strides this past year and I have to give much of the credit to Mary Grant. I think that if you go with the attitude that she is the ultimate expert in her field, trust that she knows what she is doing, and go with it. She has herself sensory issues and totally ""gets"" my very complicated son. more

Watch out! Great doctor but terrible social skills 6/9/2011

Dr. Mary is definitely one of the best in her fields. Although she can be very abusive. Doesnt seem to even keep the same staff over several years. Shes great w/the kids but very opinionated and if things dont go exact as her command and perfect, she can be quite rude at times. Its almost like its hard for her to be nice. We love what she does but after years of putting up with her abuse we decided we had had enough. Being direct is one thing, but she is beyond that to the point of abusive. Just because you are one of the best at what you do doesnt give you the right to abuse people..... more

Better follow her rules, or else! 10/17/2009

Our first appointments were positive, and I was curious about Dr. Grant's way of winning my son's attention with toys and candy. We were paying for the appointments, because she didn't use insurance. After some financial difficulties, we decided to buy the contacts and supplies and stores which had the best prices. At our next appointment, I got scolded and belittled for not caring about my son's eyes. I had never been spoken to that way by a professional in my life. After finding another doctor, it was refreshing to hear that I was not a bad parent, and there are many good brands of contacts and contact solution (even generic!), not just the ones that Dr. Grant is promoting. Pros: Skittles for kids, involves kids and parents Cons: Inflexible more

Why can't all doctors be like Dr. Mary? 8/29/2008

Dr. Mary is the best. She is refreshingly candid and fun, and goes beyond the expectations of her patients. My son and I actually look forward to our check-up appointments. She is a caring and genuine, goes the extra mile to explain what most doctors don't bother to help you to understand. She is a doctor with a heart and kind soul. And she will deliver the truth, even if it's something you don't want to hear, but, she does because she want's what is best for you. My son and I love her, we are patients for life. Pros: everthy, office appearance, location, appointment availability, spends time with patients more

best pediatric optometrist ever! Sees infants, speaks spanish, great for kids with special needs 1/1/2007

My children are generally terrified of doctors. Dr. Mary made it fun. She sees only 1 patient at a time, not running back and forth between multiple patients. She's never in a hurry with the kids. She is very knowledgeable about the problems of kids with learning disabilities and those with special needs. Her staff is friendly. We were offered bottled water and addressed by name when we checked in. The staff sent all questionnaires in advance so we didn't have to sit with the kids for 1/2 hour filling out papers. Dr. Mary was punctual. She gave each child her undivided attention. She personally helped the child that needed glasses to pick the perfect frame. She has a big selection of kid's frames and makes it fun to wear glasses. We'd follow her anywhere! more
