The ""tip"" for Gentle Movers is don't have unethical business practices. We were quoted $174 for 3 movers, one hour of unloading help. They showed up 4 hours late (at 7 pm), and while one out of the two (yes only two came) did do some work - the other older, fatter one mostly sat around. We had done most of the heavy stuff ourselves before they got there because we were never sure if they would ever show up. Then, after an hour, they doubled the price because they claimed it was 2.5 hours of service - that the time started from the time they left their facility (so they were charging 1.5 hours of travel time, which is ridiculous - they are located in Hyde Park, this was a Chelsea unload, it takes like 15 minutes). When we argued, the older man started SHOUTING at us. Then the younger one said call their supervisor, and apparently he told them to have me sign the slip, mark ""disputing,"" and we would work out the charges on Monday, but again, this guy was mad because he says he won't get paid. The person on the phone who quoted the price NEVER SAID the clock started from the time they left. Very shady company... more

I wish I had done some research before reaching out to Gentle Movers, because I certainly could have avoided the horrible experience! On August 17th, 2012 I contacted Gentle Movers to tentatively schedule a move for 9/1/12. I spoke with a Sales Rep by the name of Ron at their Corporate office (100 Business St. Hyde Park MA). Ron seemed nice enough during our initial conversation but what a cover up for disaster that followed. I explained to Ron that my move date was not yet confirmed and I asked if I could tentatively schedule for 9/1 and I inquired about the cancelation policy. Ron explained that he would need to collect a deposit in the amount of $185 and he said as long as I cancel within 48hrs of the move date, my deposit would be refunded. Not knowing any better, I provided Ron with my credit card info. Well they charged my credit card $185. I called on 8/21/12 and I informed Ron that my plans had changed and that I needed to cancel my move tentatively scheduled for 9/1. Ron told me on 8/21/12 that he would forward the info. To accounting so my my deposit refund would be processed. Since 8/21/12, it is now 10/2/12 and I have NOT received my refund and I have left numerous messages for Ron and he's never returned my calls. I have spoken with other personnel (Judy and Marianne) and I've been given the run around. It is now over a month later and I still have not received my refund. I've disputed the charge with my bank and because they did not receive a response from Gentle Movers, they had to forward the dispute to Visa for further investigation and ice been told that could take another month. I just filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau for Gentle Movers poor business practices. I cannot believe the lack of professionalism and I am furious. I warn anyone who is considering hiring Gentle Movers....DON'T DO IT!!! I'm headed to small claims next. more

Gentle Heroes 3/17/2012

I missed the whole show as I had to catch a plane to London. My sister phoned to tell me in every little detail of her move. According to her the movers were not only gentle they ?were literally heroes?. I am sure she is exaggerating but the way they, she says, got the $10,000 gothic armoire out the window as if they were pulling the bow across the strings of a violin. Just this act alone surely deserves a good review. She was worried about that one piece of furniture more than anything. I must say if anyone can make my sister happy, they can make any one happy - that I know very well. Three cheers to ?gentle heroes? who saved my sister (and me as I was the one who recommended them to her at the first place) more

Probably the best moving experience I've had so far. 2/8/2012

These guys from Gentle Movers showed up on time, they packed my furniture up nicely and took a lot of care in disassembling and reassembling things. When they unloaded my things at the new house, they were very careful and didn't bump walls or scratch anything. They put everything back together and placed things where I wanted them. Everyone was very good and helpful. They know what they're doing. In the past, I've moved maybe 4-5 times and always the movers I used broke things and they weren't good experiences. My experience with Gentle Movers was probably the best moving experience I've ever had. I would highly recommend them to friends and family and would definitely use them again too. more

Efficient, careful, and I would highly recommend them. 2/7/2012

Gentle Movers was very professional. I was very very happy with them. David was very wonderful at communicating with me. He was very understanding throughout the entire process. All the workers were very nice and polite. One worker accidentally knocked over my cloths rack but he put it back together right away. I was very happy. more

Buyer Beware 8/25/2010

I used this company to move my belongings from my 1br apt in Boston. Having moved many times for work, I know what I'm doing, everything was packed up tight in boxes, very little furniture, no appliances, plus I had already removed drawers from coffee table & dresser and plastic wrapped appropriate items. All they had to do was load the truck, unload the truck. They spent so much time milling around, scratching their heads, having hushed conversations, I actually had to ask the guy, what's the problem? It's been an hr and you have 2 boxes on the truck. He starts an argument with me, and tells me they don't have the address of where to go etc. I got him directions & when they finally just about completed loading, he insinuated that my belongings may not ever arrive to my destination. I told him I got him directions, he then goes on to tell me how ""it s$&@ to have all your stuff in someone elses hands, don't it"" keep in mind I'm seven months pregnant & am realizing my stuff is being held hostage. And i just opened the door & watched it happen. I tried calling the office who booked the move a dozen times, no answer. He told me he doesn't think there's even any gas in the truck, oh, and the company doesn't even consistently pay them, so he probably won't even show up for work after this. After a moment of thinking, I just sucked it up & told them here's my offer, I'll give $X amt if my stuff gets to it's destination in a timely manner, that's it. The whole situation was so Incredibly stressful, as the event lasted the entire day and I was never quite confident that I'd get my stuff until it was all unloaded and their truck was out of sight. I hope this saves one person the same ordeal. more
