I Highly Recommend This Place! 7/12/2009

Blu Restaurant: I've been at Blu Restaurant for both lunch and dinner. Delicious food, great staff and exemplary service! The bartenders there make the best drinks (especially the mojitos)! Because it's located on the 4th floor, people don't realize the restaurant exists cause it's hidden, but the environment and decor are beautiful! The restaurant is surrounded by glass windows and the view of boston is AMAZING--especially at night! Candles were the perfect touch for dinner cause it really set for a pleasant atmosphere. Also, the restaurant consists of a casual area and a fine dining area so you really don't need to worry about if what you're wearing suits the environment of the restaurant! Blu Cafe I haven't tried everything on the menu yet, but for the foods that I have tried they're all yummy! Quick service, friendly staff and great food! Good place to go to if you just want an in and out kind of thing. But if you want to sit and enjoy your food, they have tables as well. All in all, I've had many wonderful experiences at Blu. That is why I am sharing it with you all! And I should also add that because it's located inside the Sports Club LA, all the food from both the restaurant and cafe are made as healthy as possible! :) I HIGHLY recommend this place! more

Boston's best kept secret! 7/9/2009

Wonderful atmosphere, pristine environment, spectacular service and palatable cuisine. more

Best Hidden Gem in Boston 7/1/2009

Its just a nice restaurant that is hidden in the sports club on the 4th floor, once you find it you won't be dissapointed. This place is great food and really great bartenders that make amazing drink cocktails. Great place for a romantic dinner and with friends! Pros: Exclusive, Private, Romantic Great Bar Scene Cons: Parking more

Great Gym! 11/13/2006

Inedible Food, Rude Management 8/24/2006

I know restaurants hate restaurant week because the lowly masses traipse through their shmancy digs, but the folks over at blu have reached a new low. The only excuse we could come up with for the quality of the management and food, was that they were purposefully being rude and serving horrible food so their restaurant week customers wouldn't come back. We ordered an arugula salad which was salty, limp, and had fuzzy peaches and mushy onions. The steak could have been good if they would have provided some sort of instrument with which to cut it, say, I don't know, a steak knife. And the risotto, no kidding, looked like [regurgitation citysearch wont let us use the v word for this medical condition] in a bowl with garnish. It came complete with undigested corn kernels. The chocolate mousse was the best of the three desserts (raspberry shortcake and a caramel flan type dish) though still not incredible. Coffee was cold. The wine was great. Expensive (100 for two half bottles) but good. Which is what kept us in better spirits through the meal. The manager of the restaurant actually came over and yelled at us when we said in passing to our waiter that the salad was salty and none of us wanted to eat it. She told us we didn't have an educated palette and that the food was supposed to taste that way. To her credit, she did offer us one of the other choices on the menu, but she was so mean and aggressive that all we wanted was for her to go away. After the entrees came and we gave those back uneaten as well, we were hoping she wouldn't come back again. We spent $250 for three people to eat during restaurant week. We were served salty fuzzy mushy salad, [regurgitation] in a bowl, and a hunk of meat with no way to cut it. We then got yelled at by management for not liking the food. I don't even treat my dog that way. Save yourself the money and aggravation. You're just going to have to get drive-thru afterwards anyway. Pros: View Cons: Food, Service, Management more

Poor Customer Service, under construction and the highest rates in town--save your $ for when Equinox opens next month! 8/9/2006

You'll pay a hefty joining fee and about $200/mo. for membership here and what does it get you? Terrible customer service 9read: does not exist) and the feeling that you are in a construction zone!! The womens' locker room has only 4 working showers and is cut in half with cardboard walls. There is no access to the sauna or steam room yet the club insist on chraging its same usual high rates in spite of the terrible inconvenience to its members. Exercise classes take place in the basketball court--not fun for the class takers or the poor guys playing b-ball while listening to the strains of Britney Spears from the cardio class 2 feet away. You've got to be kidding! Save your money!!!! It's so not worth it. Pros: Lots of towels (some are stained, though--ewwww) Cons: It's a construction zone with absurd prices. more

good food but miserable parking experience 7/23/2006

My husband and I just celebrated our wedding anniversary at blu. We have enjoyed blu for many years and thought it would be perfect for this occasion. We had a delightful dinner, enjoying the seven-course chefs choice tasting menu. Pros: nice view, pleasant wait staff, good food Cons: cold, horrible parking situation, staff is nice but not very educated about the food they are serving more

Great gym! 7/14/2005

The gym is so nice! It has a squash place, basketball court, swimming pool, a pouch, Dry cleaner shop, very nice restaurant, haircut, and a sport store. where you can enjoy the sun and see the whole view of Boston common (it's on the 4th floor so you can see the whole Boston). All the nice equipment that you ever needed. In the bathroom it has towels for you, shampoo and conditioner, body wash. And in the sink, it has shaving cream, comb, mouthwash. On the mirror section, it has deodorant, hair spay and Q Tips! Omg Q-Tips! Down side is that is wicked expensive. For the cheapest plan, it cost 600 dollars to join and 150 per month and the best plan is the executive plan which cost 1900 dollars to join and 260 per month. About the executive plan is that the people will clean your clothes overnight. Pros: Beautiful Gym, Everything you needed, Can see whole city. Cons: VERY VERY expenstive more

Good but not great 5/12/2003

Menu is especially inspired but food ais good. The sunny room is great for a relaxed and cherry brunch. Pros: food, location, ambience Cons: food not imaginative more

Maybe, maybe not 1/23/2003

I took my daughter for her birthday, we'd heard about it on the Phantom Gourmet. A very strange setting to be combined with a sports club, odd. You felt you were in the sports club cafe. Food was very good, waiter was excellent. Too expensive for the setting and the portions. Parking with the valet was a fiasco. Pros: waitstaff Cons: atmosphere, parking more

unimpressed 12/24/2002

went for my birthday quite some time ago, and wasn't too thrilled. steak was tasty but certainly not the best. portions were small and most dishes weren't worth mentioning. definitely not worth the price tag, but mediocre food for its price. try the cafe for cheaper eats. good location from atop. Cons: expensive, mediocre more

Fantastic Evening at Blu 11/14/2002

My date and I had a fantastic evening at Blu! It was empty (Monday), and we were seated at a quiet window table. Our waiter was not only very knowledgeable, but also understood that we were out for a romantic night and let us eat at a very comfortable pace. To start, we had a chestnut and porcini soup and a carmelized onion tarte w/ goat cheese. These were both excellent - fantastic tastes that were right-on. Our entrees were the maple glazed venison which had delicious tastes of cumin, and the mustard-crusted lamb that was not only perfect, but also a large portion. Both of these melted away perfectly. Being athletes, we really appreciated the fact that we could enjoy gourmet food that had been prepared in a health-conscious manner. One downside: some wine prices were 3 times retail. That's a bit much for storing and uncorking a bottle. Pros: perfect service, modern ambience, melting meats Cons: pricey wine list more

A Faux Hip Abomination 11/13/2002

I am surprised that Sports Club LA and the Ritz would associate themselves with such an abomination. The hostess was a moron. The pseudo-ecclectic crowd full of faux pretention and the food tasteless. Don't bother. There are no ""beautiful people"" here. Pros: trendy Cons: obnoxious staff, faux hip, bad food more

Blu is wonderful! 7/23/2002

I have eaten at Blu on several occasions because I cannot get enough of the wonderful food and impeccable service there. Chef Dante deMagistris is a gracious host and a master at fine cuisine. Every item on the menu is a pleasure to the senses, from the chestnut soup to the three fish combo and the roasted chicken. The desserts are lovely, too. Although the prices exceed McDonald's, Blu deserves the highest of recommendation to impress even the most difficult to please diners! more

A Taste of California in Beantown 7/21/2002

SO refreshing to find such a California-style bar and restaurant in Boston. It is absolutely beautiful and intimate, simple yet elegant. The food is pricey but very good and the service is impeccable. It is great for a drink at the bar, aromantic dinner, or a group for a party. It's in a rather hidden spot (in the Sports Club, next to Jer-Ne) but it is well worth it. I went once and I was completely hooked so now I'm a regular! more

Worth It! 7/14/2002

I went to ""Blu"" with my girlfriend the other night. The manager (I believe his name was Mesut) seated us in the bar area and offered us a drink while we waited for a ""better"" table. This was fine with us, for the bar was beautiful and we got to soak in the atmosphere. After our drink, we were seated a beautiful window table. Our waiter was excellent. I bombarded him with questions and he had an answer for all of them. He was also very prompt and courteous. The food was incredible, and averagely priced for a fine dining establishment. I highly recommend the halibut! If you are into fine dining, ""Blu"" is a great new place in Boston. People who complain that these finer dining establishments are too expensive should know what they are getting themselves into and stay at ""Durgin Park"". more
