I brought my German Shepherd for the first time into Dr Sines office and she was so amazing with him. He tried to bite her and the staff. But she was so good and patient with him....

Worst

We have been going to Elam for many years. We have had a couple emergencies, I have never had to worry about weather my babies would be seen immediately, and taken care of! I love the staff. I love Dr Draper. She is most excellent at explaining what is going on with your baby. My animals will be life long patients. Thank you Elam staff for loving our animals as much as we do! more

Our visit with Elam was truly preasuable for me and my puppy Diamond. The receptionist had a pleasant and helpful demeanor. The atmosphere had such a pleasant scent as we entered the clinic. Once they were finished with Diamond, they called me to let me know that she was ready for pick up. Everyone in the office is super friendly which put me at ease with leaving my family member with them in there care. Then to add icing to their service, they called me the next day to check on Diamond to see how she was doing from her annual exam and rabies shot......... Superb service and care is given to pets and pet owners at Elam. We will return.\r \r Well pleased Customer,\r Melinda and Diamond Griffin more

2014. Unfortunately our two most recent experiences --one urgent & another routine -- went very badly. We brought one of our cats in because he'd stopped eating. The blood-work they performed was incomplete and the expensive procedures they kept us there over an hour discussing would not have helped him. We took our pet to another vet the very next morning, even though Elam had wanted to schedule euthanasia given our refusal to accept their suggested care, & he is now purrrrfectly fine; it also cost us much less than the care program recommended by Elam. (If you're ever uncomfortable, seek out a 2nd opinion, always.) We decided that was due inexperience/bad luck. \r \r *However, a recent routine visit underscored many concerns. Expense. Cleanliness. Rudeness. The vet assistants are very nice, but the vets I've talked to there have been argumentative & just plain rude. **None of the current staff is familiar to us.** The exam rooms are dirty. There is no ""chill-out""/feliway room, though there are dogs barking, and people talking loudly. Other vets have these, so that when you & your pet must wait 40 minutes hearing all this traffic (Elam's facilities are small), they're a lot calmer than they'd otherwise be. When I mentioned that, because they feature feliway in every room, they insisted it would do no good after the fact. That has not been my experience elsewhere. \r \r Finally, the care: both cats were so upset one bit through his tongue, both messed their carriers and there was excessive hair loss. Both were hyperventilating while the vet kept me in the exam room talking to me about how we should have sedated them. Elam wants $60 per cat to sedate, which is much more expensive than ANY other vets we've been to; $120 for 2 cats was outrageous, as was their handling. I had listened to both screaming while they were examined in the back, and had wanted to take them elsewhere, but my grandfather wanted this over asap. I'd helped him during prior trips, bringing both cats to Elam for their yearly shots. These cats had been difficult before but Elam had handled that well. There was never screaming like I'd heard this time. One cat has not come out of hiding since bringing her home, and given the bad professional advice I received just prior to this terrible experience, I have to strongly suggest you take your cats anywhere else. Maybe they are better with dogs, but between the expense and their... approach to things, I cannot recommend them for cats at all. more

Need to find Dr. Emily Hoppmann 1/21/2012

I know that I am still on the internet as working for Elam, but I left over two years ago. Dr. Hoppmann is now the owner of Elgin Veterinary Hospital where she continues to see exotics and small animals. The website is www.elginvethospital if you would like more information. The best part of her owning the clinic is now she can have a clinic that practices the best quality of medicine possible and can ensure that every client/patient is treated like family. She also has a well-trained staff and has been able to lower prices to what she finds is fair and actually allows people to afford to provide quality care for their pets. The clinic is run like a family and that is how you and your pet would be treated. . Pros: null Cons: null more

A Great Place for Pets -- and Their Parents! 1/5/2009

A pet's care is vital to his or her "Parent's" peace of mind. For those of us who love our pets, we value people who understand our love and reciprocate with love and care in return.\r \r My dogs have been clients at Elam Animal Hospital for more than six years, and I have not been disappointed in their care. They love being dropped off and boarded, and I sometimes wonder if they are having a big pajama party and dishing the dirt on all of us! Sunday pick-up of pets is a real plus when you have to board your pets.\r \r They also have received their physical, dental appointments and surgical procedures done at Elam, and I am very pleased with the care and compassion that we have been shown. If you haven't tried the grooming services, you must.\r \r Love My Dogs more

Great for Rescue Groups... 12/30/2008

Elam works with the rescue groups in the area and they are excellent. If we need boarding or vet care on that side of the city they are always there to help. They return your calls also asap if you have to leave a message after hours. Great group of people!!! more
