City Pets

I have had the most amazing experience with City Pets...I am pleasantly shocked at the wonderful customer service and friendliness of the brothers, Donnie & David and staff! I am new to the hobby of saltwater fish/aquariums I met the brothers at City Pets after I had already gotten a few quotes from other fish stores. Donnie took the time (&it was really busy in there) to explain everything, listen to my needs, & suggest the perfect tank for me...& his quote was well below the other fish store quotes I got....plus I ended up getting a custom tank with upgrades! While waiting for my tank to come in (2 wks) I visited the store 2more times in prep for the big day! David was equally there to help with all questions...he even sought me out several times in the store and asked me to ask him questions! So, my tank came in & David called and set up a time to deliver and install....laid back, convenient & reassuring! The installation went smoothly - better then I could have expected...I'm a little OCD and I just had new floors laid down...David and Kong were so respectful , even took their shoes off (without me asking) no mess, just 1 perfect tank at 1 perfect price with upgrades to boot! City Pets is the real deal, these guys love what they do and love bringing people into this hobby! I AM SO VERY IMPRESSED! more

We purchased a bunny 3 weeks ago from City Pets with a slight discharge from one eye. We figured it was just an irritant as it appeared healthy in all other respects. Well, we just had to have it put to sleep and are devastated. It had a major tooth abscess that had spread to its lymph nodes. When I contacted City Pets about their ""warranty"" policy, they stated they had none. Now I am out the cost of the rabbit, an expensive vet bill to examine it and put it down and a broken heart! They seem to have a very poor reputation and policy regarding the pets they sell. BUYER BEWARE! more

This store had tropical fish and plants I've never seen before....So the selection had uncommon fish to the typical fish stores. Plenty of aquariums, lights and other animals for sale. I saw about 15 Cockatoos along with baby birds up front. People are not allowed back in the reptile/bird section without a rep.......which to me is nice for the animals. The store was kept clean, no smell, and I saw 1 dead fish in the whole store....in a display tank. I personally bought some unique fish and algae wafers in a bag for 2.99. The clown loaches were 3.99, 6.99 Petsmart and 4.99 at my favorite pet shop....to give you and idea of price. Of course you could also buy monster sizes at higher prices. I also bought baby brine shrimp which I have not run across in any stores. The owner seemed to be an asian woman which picked up on our conversation and jumped in very nicely. She was very very helpful and new everything about everything in the store. I did have a little wait finding a sales rep.....but reallly nothing to complain about here. I purchase one cockatiel and the next day purchased another. The second died within 9 day, and the first 15 days after I purchased it. I have two very sad children. I haven't found anything yet about this pet store, and sick birds, although did notice one dead bird in one of the Cockatiel cages. Love this store! David has the drygoods down and will beat almost prices on anything. Donny knos his reef stuff. Great people and nice family. Keep up the good work. The have freswater, bird room, sm animals, reef, plants, and of course saltwater and reef. they do need employee training but David assured he is working on it. This is David and I happen to work here for quite a few years as many people know. To many of those customers out there, thank you for the support and business through all the years, we really couldn't have made it without you. I know we have a great store here and we try our best to please our customers. Like any other business we strive for great products with helpful service when we can. Sometimes we cannot satisfy every customer. This is reply to the post back in Dec of 07 that this particular customer this we are dishonest. First off, yes, this customer bought this aquarium when the manufacturer raised the prices by 24%, so we did sell the aquarium below cost. I called the manufacture about the aquarium supposed problem and they said it was fine ( they backed the lifetime guarantee on the aquarium) and that is what i explained since she hasn't even put water in there yet!. Yes, there was one missed date because the wood cap she wanted comes in from Dallas and the shipping truck didnt make it in time, but i promptly called the customer and let her know. I delivered the tank myself, (she just forgot to tell me its mention its 3 stories up), and I charged a way low delivery fee, definitely not worth it. During the tank company's manufacturing transition they did not have the stand it stock. Quite honestly I could tell she wasnt happy so I happily offered her a company check, she refused so I gave here a cash refund in the full amount. I thought this is the best refund all around - cold hard cash :) Us dishonest please, we r a small business trying to make it in a rough world, thats all. If I was dishonest I would definitely not refunded your $$. I even apologized and sorry we couldn't get this resolved another way. Truthfully, i didnt want to deal with the person regarding this aquarium, decided to cut ties and move on. Btw, i really didnt know about credit card rules, sorry cc companies i know now. I shop here base on prices and what is available. The brothers are really nice to me and helped me develop my tank into a mural. You will find stuff that isn't available anywhere else. Pros: Great selection Cons: A little hard to get help more

I bought a 90 gallon Oceanic setup from them; however, upon delivery, I immediately informed them that the stand was warped. They told me it was fine. Upon checking into the issue, every resource stated that the stand must be plumb and level or the extreme weight of that much water would stress the seams of the tank and cause leaks. When I called them to have the stand exchanged for one that's not warped, they refused to exchange it, insisting on a refund instead. Pros: Cheap delivery charges Cons: Defective products, broke credit card rules, intentionally dishonest. more

I would NEVER go here again. Although City Pets has a large selection, they have the absolute WORST service I have ever encountered in the business. I came in on a fairly slow evening looking to purchase a saltwater tank for my son's birthday. I was greeted by Donnie, who looked as if he wanted to assist me, but when I started asking questions, he seemed irritated and looked at me as if I was an idiot. Not only was he uneager to help, he passed me onto another staff member, who knew absolutlely nothing about what I was inquiring about. Not only that, i didn't realize that their closing hour was at 8:00, to have the lights actually turned off on me to ""kick"" me out the store! Unbelievable. I was in there looking around and was impressed with the selection that was offered. Great place to bring your kids in or date in to look around. Lots of different types of animals. I had heard City Pets had the best prices for buying equipment for my saltwater tank. The prices were comparable with internet prices, but beware - check everything before you leave the store. I bought 2 Coralife PC's - when I got them home to set up someone had swapped out the bulbs and I didn't get what I had paid for. Also bought 2 Coralife Timers - one did not work, looked like it had already been used; heater quit working within 2 weeks of purchase. Insist on plugging in any equipment and checking before leaving the store. Also, watch closely when they are ringing up your items! more

This is my #1 fish store. Staff is honest and knowelegable, they will tell you not to buy a fish if they think you will kill it or it isn't compatible with your other fish. They will take the time to talk to you and answer questions about compatibility and equiptment. Fish (fresh and salt) I get from them are ALWAYS healthy. Haven't had much luck w/ guinea pigs from them but I am pretty sure thier birds are always healthy, and a big selection of birds. Some reptiles, bunnies and rats as well. i was interested in creating a coral reef tank for my business, so I went to many pet stores to look for selection and knowledge. To my surprise, this pet store had both. They had tons of different corals and fish, and they seemed to genuinely care about what I wanted (plus, the prices were pretty low) Since I bought the tank they have visited my business to maintain it and make sure everything was okay. I love this store! They have a huge selection of products for all types of animals. Their service has been improving, and their prices are some of the cheapest i've ever seen. Their coral reef tanks are spectacular, and shows their expertise in the business! You definitely have to come visit one of the largest pet stores in Houston!
