All The World's A Stage... 8/19/2006

Did anyone call him Bill? I don't think so, but you never know :) Shakespeare's work will never die and still thrives around the world to this day. Is Shakespeare the world's most famous author (non-biblical) of all time. Thanks in part to theaters like this stunning one at our own Navy Pier William's work not only lives but these actors breath new live into it. The multi-million dollar theater or theatre if you will was modeled after the origional Globe Theater as another reviewer Tabitha S. has pointed out. more

Enchanting 5/14/2006

I absolutely love Shakespeare and this theate is always a treat for me. A show here is always worth watching. Just its location is enchanting. The theater is located on Navy Pier. It is a huge and beautiful theater with plenty of seating. But don't let that fool you! The tickets sell out really far in advance so make sure you plan ahead. They always have different shows here and the actors and the effort put into these shows are excellent. This is one place to go if you want to make a night truly special and enchanting. more

Beautiful... 3/13/2006

I love this place. I have ushered for four different shows and they never fail to impress me. The staff is very informative and nice to simple ushers like myself. Call and ask for the opportunity to usher. The stage is set "in the round" and resembles (I'm told) the original Globe Theater. The crowd is upper to upper middle class (the people that drink wine at a performance). I love the mix of old and new (they usually use some sort of period other than 16th century - one was set in the 1930's with the original dialogue of the play). more

Shakespeare on Theater 2/24/2006

Located on Navy Pier, this theatre does reinactments of Shakespearean plays. Its a huge theater and its very well kept. Its a fun way to spend an evening or afternoon. The actors in all the plays are wonderful and really bring each play to life. The lenght of these plays range between an hour to three hours and no matter which on you go to, its always a great experience. Make sure to make reservations well in advance for the plays though because they get sold out really quick. more

Beautiful Theater 10/16/2005

I took my girlfriend to see Romeo and Juliet at the Shakespeare Theater and it was awesome. It's a new theater only built in 1999 but everything is beautifully designed and the setting was perfect. They also have a dining area and the theater was run in top notch fashion the day we went to see the musical. The staff was friendly and courteous. The lobby area overseas Lake Michigan so plan on coming early just for the ambience. Come early too to beat the traffic and parking. more

Surprise...Great Theatre at Navy Pier 8/18/2005

The Chicago Shakespeare Theater is an undiscovered gem for most theater goers in the city. As unlikely as it seems, this is a place to see great theatre, whether Shakespeare or some other fare. Went to a New Year's eve performance of a non-Shakespearean play and they served free champagne during intermission. This small theatre means that everyone gets a great seat, and the performances are great too. Who would have imagined Navy Pier as the setting for some great Shakespeare? more

Great Shakespeare, Great Scenery 8/12/2005

I've gone to several shows THAT I'VE LOVED. I thought they outdid themselves with the scenery and costumes and music. I've also been to a couple that were minimalist, which I definitely did not enjoy as much. Every seat in the house is fantastic. They have a coat check, they offer drinks and ice cream during the break. more
