One of the best restaurants on the east coast 12/2/2008

For anybody who enjoys fine cuisine in a charming setting, then this is the place for you. The menu changes seasonally, which is they way real chefs operate, and Chef William Severac is a real chef and, he is French. If I go to a Fench restaurant, I want authentic French cuisine, not some facsimile thereof. When I go to this place, I try to have something different each time. I have sampled Wild Boar, Rabbit, Sea Bass and filet mignon with a bernaise sauce like you have never had in your life. The fois gras is incredible as is the goat cheese appetizer along with the escargot. Again, some of these things change seasonally. This chef only obtains fresh ingredients and he is a fanatic for quality. The service is excellent and Chef William Severac's wife, Muriel, is a wonderful woman who operates the business side of things. She is a wine expert and if some of you are afraid to choose a wine, she will recommend something very nice. The wine list changes routinely and there are many things that may not be on the list so it is best to ask Muriel what she has in the cellar. This is the perfect setting for an intimate evening. There is no pretense here. The chef and his wife make you feel right at home. There is really no dress code so that is never a concern. Just bring an open mind to one of the finest restaurants on the east coast. It is worth the drive to this place. I keep going back, and I live 1 hour away. Among all of the highly commercialized restaurants around, this place stands out among the over priced, low level food americans are accustomed to eating. If you want great authentic French cuisine cooked by a frenchman trained in France, then this is the place. Pros: Food, Ambience, Service. Cons: Probably a long drive for most people. more

Best romantic spot 1/31/2007

I took my wife for our 10 year anniversary to dinner at this great french restaurant named Chez Gerard. The attentive staff made our anniversary a memorable one. Dinner is pre fix 6 course meal costing $48. Starting with amuse bouche tthat was a slice of turkey rolade with a cranberry chutney. Then an appetizer, we chose the escargot and Lobster salad. For the main course we had the Filet mignon with bearnaise sauce and the Dover sole filetted tableside made us feel like we had special attention. The international cheese course followed the main course and the knowledgable server educated us on their more than 10 different cheeses. For desert we enjoyed an ever so delicate Grand Marnier souflee and Apple tartin with vanilla ice cream both served on plates decorated with ""Happy Anniversary"", a very nice touch. At the end there was a sweet suprise of truffles and cookies to finish of the meal. Before we left this memorable meal the chef came to our table to wish us a happy anniversary personally. I must suggest you come hungry and willing to spend some time in this charming restaurant. Pros: The ambience of this restaurant is perfect for a romantic dinner any nite of the week. more

Worth the Drive Pittsburgers! 2/9/2004

No place like Chez Gerard in town....romantic, old-world feel, impressive attention to detail by staff. Great place for a special dinner....have gone there all dressed up and have also been welcomed by the owner when we were in jeans and hiking boots after an afternoon in the Laurel Mountains. Well worth the drive from Pgh....if you skip it, you'll have missed a superstar. Pros: atmosphere!, kid-friendly, fantastic cuisine more
