Best

For the past 33 years Cafe Cortina has been dedicated to what true Italian cooking and hospitality is all about. They seem to only get better with time. This once best kept secret...

Worst

A good looking place but the food is nothing special and it is overpriced.

Cafe Cortina nice but expensive with a few caveats 6/17/2013

Started out not perfect with the restaurant not having my favorite alcohol, Crown Royal. Oh well, let's... more

My Absolute Favorite 1/5/2010

For the past 33 years Cafe Cortina has been dedicated to what true Italian cooking and hospitality is all about. They seem to only get better with time. This once best kept secret is no longer. We LOVE this place!!! Pros: A One and Only Cons: To wait in line on a busy night. more

new years 1/4/2010

I had a similar experience to the reviewer who encountered a crowd at the door , even with reservations . The host never checked reservations , just took who he wanted . The food was off the menu , so there is no reason for poor food , but it was . The service was non existant for most of the evening . The food was very poor for what was expected . I too had the the Lobster pasta . No one came with Parmasian or pepper , which it needed. It took a full 10 minutes to hail someone , not my server .The wine was not the one I asked for and had to be returned .The pasta was cold and dry .Desert was good....I will never return Pros: well appointed Cons: service, orginazation and food more

there's more than food here! 9/28/2009

A mouse-like rodent ran across my foot while waiting for a table. The host was not concerned, he mentioned it was cold and that the doors had been open a lot. Makes me wonder exactly how many vermin occupy Cafe Cortina. The fact that the waitstaff/host/owner did nothing or even apologize was the most disturbing. If you can get past the rodents, the food is quite delicious. Pros: good food, cute little grey vermin Cons: what's in the kitchen? more

Not what you expect 9/6/2009

I took nine of my friends to Cafe Cortina last night for our anniversary and frankly was quite disappointed. The attentiveness and ambiance was good. The service was quite poor, servers were confused who had what food hence wrong food was placed in front of several (most) people. We had to actually shift food out of several plates to get the right food and sides in front of the right person!!! The starchy foods, such as pasta and side potatoes, were extremely salty and not uniform in taste, e.g. the lobster pasta had globs of salt here and there. They brought the Prawns grilled when the menu indicated they were saut?ed. Servers were attentive but not trained properly. I recommend the place only to very small groups, like two. Double check the menu and food preparedness with the servers and don't assume you will get what you think you ordered. If you don't like too much salt, let them know that specifically. Go there when its nice out and ask for outside seat ing. Inside is nice but somewhat ruined by their small Gas fireplace. You would really want a real fire place in such places, Don't you think? Pros: Attentive, Romantic (specially outside) Cons: Nice Atmosphere, Mediocre food, Poor Service, Pricey more

Mediocre food, poor service, pretentious 2/16/2009

I don't usually write bad reviews on restaurants since it could've been an off night, but I felt compelled to review Cafe Cortina. My wife and I went there on Valentine's Day (Sat night)...maybe not the best night to go, but we had a reservation. We had high expectations since it is one of only a handful of 4 diamond restuarants in the city. When we walked in there was a crowd of people crammed in the entrance all waiting to be seated, but no host/hostess, so mass confusion. When the host appeared 10 minutes later he arrogantly walked through the crowd telling everyone they would be seated shortly with a ridiculous smile and swagger. He didn't check reservations and seated a group every 5-10 minutes, even though there were plenty of empty tables in sight (some people actually seated themselves when he was gone). We actually got skipped over a few times for regulars and were finally seated at 7:45. The host apologized to us and the couple behind us for the long wait and gave us a BS excuse how he wanted to give us a fireside view, which was ironic since the fire was behind my wife's line of sight and a wall blocked my view, ha. The poor couple behind us got stuffed in the corner, no view. After we got our wine and water we waited 25 minutes for our server to show up, who turned out to be excellent. We ordered 4 shrimp with green geppercorn as an appetizer ($12). It had no flavor and was very mushy. My wife ordered the pasta with lobster ($34), and I ordered a half and half of two different kinds of ravioli (one with cheeses, one with lamb and artichokes - $32). My wife's lobster dish was underwelming, the lamb in my ravioli was excellent, but the sauce ruined it. The cheese ravioli's were excellent. Overall, I would say we felt we got better pasta a less expensive restaurants like Brio, Bravo, and Andiamo's. We then ordered desert (Flourless chocolate cake with expresso gelato). The portions were very small. The cake was good, but the gelato had freezer burn. Pros: Great Server, Good Wine List Cons: Host service, pastas more

great Italian food!! 8/15/2008

Cafe Cortina is a great place for dinner! They actually grow many of their veggies they serve right there behind the place! They have a beautiful dining room and great food. Wonderful desserts too! Pricey but worth it! more

Ristorante Cafe Cortina 4/21/2008

I was pleased with the compassionate service we received at Cafe Cortina. Not only is the food fabulous, but the staff is wonderful! Make reservations for "fireside seating." A++++++++ Pros: Everything Cons: Dinner for two: $150+ more

Fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 3/5/2008

From the moment you pull up at the valet parking, the great service never stops. The food Veal Limon was the best veal dish I ever had, the appetizer's, salad, pasta, dessert, cognac . From beginning to end a memorable dining experience. Pros: Everything Cons: Not a one more

By far one of the best Italian restaurants in the country 11/18/2007

I've eaten all across the country and I have to say that Cafe Cortina is without a doubt one of the best Italian restaurants around. From the impeccable Italian-accented service (I wonder if everyone is told to speak with an accent?!) to the absolutely AMAZING olive oil (seasoned with herbs from the restaurant's very own garden) to the romantic fireplace alcove and delicious main courses, this restaurant is A+. You can tell the people here really care and want you to have a wonderful time. In the summer, the lovely outdoor courtyard is soothing and delightful -- you'll forget you're in the middle of nowhere :) If you're looking for a very special dining experience with impeccable service, Cafe Cortina is a perfect choice. Pros: Delicious food, fresh ingredients, stellar service Cons: There aren't any! more

Avoid 4/12/2007

This place is not good and expensive. Pros: I never have to go back Cons: Ever more

Best food, best service, best ambiance 9/1/2006

IMHO, anyone who rates the Whitney's uneven service and overpriced food as superior to Cafe Cortina simply hasn't been there, or doesn't know great Italian food when they see it. This is a primo spot for birthdays, anniversaries, or any special romantic occasion. Adrian Tonto and his staff are consummate professionals who are attentive to their guests, but never obtrusive. Special requests when making reservations are graciously addressed, and if you ever find something wanting, it will be remedied immediately. This restaurant is a hidden gem; as the French say, "il faut." Pros: Worth every penny Cons: Pricey more

There is a reason this place is listed in DIRONA 2/15/2006

Romantic to the max, try to get a table near the fireplace. Authentic Italian done with flair and class. The portions a a bit small, but the quality is there in spades. Excellent service what more could you ask for in a restaurant! Pros: Romantic, Fireplace, Service more

Prices not justified by food or service 1/14/2006

Prices are high. Appetizers run $6-12, pastas $25-30, entrees $35-50. For these prices I expect well-executed food. Pastas were not overcooked but they were not flavorful, relying on heavy cream sauces. Spent $48 for appetizer sampler for 4 --$12 for 4 pieces of breaded artichoke and $12 for 4 medium shrimp, plus greasy unseasoned calamari. Pros: Plesant waitstaff Cons: Overpriced, Mediocre food, Pretentious more

Marangdav 1/17/2005

This place was great! The food, service and atmoshpere was perfect. From the parmesean cheese plate at the beginning to the Mango Sorbet for dessert everything was just right. Veal Chop is one of the best I have had. more

2007 Update of Previous Review: Good Italian 11/29/2004

Cafe Cortina continues to amaze my customers & I in their versatility and excellence in dining. I stand by the following remarks I made several years ago..... Pros: outstanding food, warm, cozy interior, adequate parking Cons: moderately expensive, need reservations more

Had a great meal 8/11/2004

It was cold outside but the cozy atmosphere and gracious greeting warmed us up. The mushroom appetizer was excellent (and parts kept showing up all over the menu) as were the entrees (lamb and filet). The amount of waitstaff attention was perfect--no hovering, no, "How are you guys tonight?" but attentive. Somewhat overpriced but it's a place that I would revisit on another special occasion. Pros: Quality of food, Service, Atmosphere more

Looks Aren't Everything 9/23/2002

A good looking place but the food is nothing special and it is overpriced. more
