BEST place in Sugarhouse. I took my husband there the other evening wanting to try something different. I had one of their pasta dishes in dill sauch w/chicken and let me tell you.....mmmmmm doesn't do it justice. One of the best pasta dishes I've had since living in Europe 8 years ago. My husband LOVED their pizza. With him living in Italy most of his childhood he KNOWS pizza. The service was wonderful and the atmosphere was quite different. I like Brookside quite a bit. I've been eating there off and on for five or six months after a friend turned me on to the place. On warm days I like their patio. They have a cool patio by the side of the brook (hence the name). I generally get their kabobs, but the other day I tried something new and got the spicy vodka pasta with shrimp. I have to say that I think I found my new favorite dish! The portion was huge, and the shrimp were fresh, not rubbery. Pros: Service, food, location. I used to work here. I still eat there. I worked there because i loved the food. Its is hard work because it is cleaner than you can imagine. The old manager and some employees were fired and made up bad review. One of them even puts there own name Ha Ha. Make up whatever you want. People who go see that its first class. My friend told me that the owner, and his staff write good reviews to try and cover up all the bad reviews. They dont want you to know the truth. The service is bad, the location is great, the food isnt good, and the only reason to go there is to drink some beer. Pros: None at all! Cons: Shady business going on. more

Ive eaten at Brookside a couple times, and the food is okay. But the main problem is the service, and the way the service is treated. My husband and I went to Brookside not too long ago, planning to enjoy a nice meal, when we definately got more than we bargained for. First of all, we recieved our wilted salads, and when we pointed out how wilted it was, the server ignored the situation. Apparently their salads are always like that! Ew. When we recieved our yellow (chicken) kabobs, the color was a bit off-putting. They were tastey though, and definately Brooksides claim to fame. But the worst part of our dining experience was when the owner, a man who sits in the corner booth playing on his computer, started yelling at the server. He was using innapropriate language, and the whole restaurant could hear. I thought it was really unprofessional. In retrospect, I would have taken my business else where. But hindsight is 20/20, and now I know better. My recommendation is to stay away, and get better food and service somewhere else for the same price. Pros: Alright Food, and Good Parking. I've been eating at Brookside for over a year now, and I can't believe the bad reviews below! I have never received bad service, or even sub-par service. The faces are always friendly and welcoming. But even better than the service is the food. The food is always fresh and delicious. I recently attended a private party at Brookside a couple of weeks ago for a friends' wedding luncheon and it was done professionally and efficiently. Our drinks were full the whole lunch, and we never had to ask for refills. Needless to say, I love Brookside. The food is great, and the service is great! I have read a few of these recent bad reviews. They are lies. This place has never had only one table on the patio on a Saturday night. I knew right then it was just someone being mean. This is the best atmosphere and best fresh made daily food in Salt lake City no doubt. And two people said they spent $80 dollars on dinner. You can have dinner there for not much more than $20. Perhaps they drank $80 of wine and couldnt even write a fair review. this place is a credit to local business standing up against the constant influx of bad food chains that come in and take over with giant advertising budgets. I would just like to say, I don't agree with the last couple of comments. My family and I go there once a week and we haven't ever had a bad experience. The food is always great and always cooked perfectly. Sometimes the restaurant is so busy that we would expect to wait a little longer but thats not the case, they waitress are so efficient that you don't even notice. The food is wonderful and I would highly recommend it. more

Too bad, Brookside used to be a great restaurant. I don't know if they are under new management, or any management. The food has gone downhill and so has the service. We had asked for a few more minutes to look over the menu when 10 minutes goes by, the waiter actually looking at us (staring back at her with our menus closed) and still cont to talk to her coworker. Then the dressing on my salad tasted like pure vinegar. Then she went to refill my husbands ice tea and continued to fill it until the drink spilled onto the table. We had to ask for utensils etc and I don't know how they stay in business, there is never enough customers to require the amount of staff they always have on hand- which would be nice if it was great food accompanied by great service. Who was paid to write the rave revues? Do NOT believe them and DO NOT go to this restaurant. There is no way this was just a ""bad experience"" on a bad night. Brookside should be ASHAMED of themselves. This is one of the most desirable locations in Salt Lake City and this restaurant is an embarassment to a prime hot spot. The outdoor patio was pathetic. Bright lighting, stacked up chairs everywhere, no attempt to even make it some what inviting. The service was indifferent and slow even though there were only 5 customers in the entire restaurant (and on a Saturday night--that should have been our first clue). The warm glass of chardonnay that the waitress brought to me could have been just an oversight if everything else hadn't SUCKED, which brings me to the food. Both my husband and I ordered the prime filet mignon which is claimed as ""the best filet in Salt Lake"" on the menu. They were both cooked incorrectly, sent back, still rare after 2nd attempt and pretty much tasted ""stewed"" after that. The salad, vegetables and rice were covered with cayenne pepper in an attempt to distract from the fact that they too, sucked. It was one of the worst dining experiences ever. After an $80 bill--we ended up at Wendys. Do yourself a favor--don't believe the revues as we did--they were either written when the restaurant was under different ownership or paid endorsements. This place should close its doors. more

Where to begin...I've been out of town and did not realize one of the key ingredients has been left out of this restaurant's recipe!!! WHERE IS DIRK??? I have been on a low carb diet and it is very difficult to find a place where you can eat affordably and skip the carbs. I can get chicken, steak or shrimp kababs. They have excellent steaks. They have half or whole chickens. You can custom pick your vegetables to be stir fried. And all for at or under ten dollars. Its the answer to my problems when it comes to food. They have all kinds of pizza and burgers and desserts for those who dont diet but you can eat as healthy as you want in this place. The decor is very modern and cool looking. This place has finally got all the components. They have wine and beer now and the selection is good. The service has stepped up and the food comes faster. This is the easiest place in town to eat healthy. Carbs, no carbs, vegetarian, whatever. All the food is fresh and cooked to order and you can tell. Also the best patio in town. This food for this cost with this atmosphere is very hard to beat. more

My girlfriend is a vegetarian, so when we eat out usually one of us has to comprimise. Usually it is her. I was a bit skeptical when she toldme about this place steaks, ribs, vegetarian food too? Both people being happy? So we went over to eat, what a wonderful suprise. We were seated proptly outside and our severer was great too. She went through the wines with us and our food was dynamite. This place looks so cute and hip, who wouldn't want to go in. But the food was below average to bad. The service was absolutely horrible. None of the servers/hostesses were doing anything. People were sitting in the restaurant waiting on menus and to order as the servers just chatted and goofed around behind the counter not doing anything. It was like pulling teeth to actually get your food brought out as you could see it had just been prepared since the counter is open to the kitchen. And don't even try to get a drink refill! This place is one of my favorites because healthy choices on the menu are abundant and everything I've enjoyed everything I've tried so far, especially the salads and kabobs. I'm a picky eater and have never been dissapointed. The transition from Wastach Broiler to Brookside Broiler has brought some pleasant changes while keeping the best elements of the restaurant unchanged. It's clean, modern, the patio is lovely and I'm very comfortable bringing clients there for food I know will be excellent, efficient service and great atmosphere. This is such a great restaurant! Everything I've ordered there has been excellent. I love the pepperoni pizza and the desserts. They also have extremely healthy entrees for when you want to be ""good"". The service and atmosphere is also great. I always feel like the restaurant is very, very clean. This is a fabulous place to go for a date, dinner with friends or even a quick bite. The owner and the manager keep things running very smoothly.
