We moved to the east Millcreek area in Sep. A neighbor who works or volunteers with best friends and cares for local outdoor cats gave us a voucher to get our cat neutered. Brickyard was listed as one of the places that would honor the voucher. The voucher was not honored because of the wording on it. The reference by the people who are sending them business meant nothing. $184 later, our cat is now fixed. They didn't even offer to give us a discount or anything. The lady at the front desk was a b.... . She made a smart remark to my wife about being lucky we didn't have to pay another customers bill when the other clerk told her the balance was $1000.\r \r So much for trying to support your local businesses. We won't be going there again! Too bad for them. I have a dog that needs a couple hundred dollars of elective surgery.\r \r I feel bad for best friends too. Their volunteer gave us misleading info and a place they supposedly have a business connection with doesn't care to try to work with those sent by them. more

Worst kennel ever.\r \r My wife and I are having a baby in a few months and plan on boarding our dogs while we're in the hospital. I had heard negative reviews about Brickyard Kennel but that they had recently cleaned up their act. We both had to go out of town for an evening and decided we would give Brickyard Kennel a try to see if we'd feel comfortable leaving them there when the baby comes. I was told that our dogs would be able to play with other dogs for the majority of their stay. What we were told couldn't be farther from the truth. \r \r We used the camera service to keep an eye on the dogs and not once did we see any staff member interacting with them. When 9:30 am rolled around and my wife hadn't seen any sign of the dogs she called in to Brickyard Kennel and was told that dogs go into their kennels at 4 PM and are only taken out again at 10 AM. That's right, they spend 18 hours in their kennels. My wife expressed her concern about them being left in their kennel for so long, and was told that our dogs would be brought out to play with the other dogs that came in for day care starting at 10:00. My wife kept an eye on them and they weren't actually brought out to play with other dogs until close to noon. I'm sorry but they would have been better off if we had just left them at home and had someone come play with them. They may have done some updating and remodeling at the facility, but it's still as shabby of a service as it ever was. more

Bad Experience.. Won't go back 6/29/2011

I heard about Brickyard Kennel from a friend and decided to use them after checking out the web site (which makes the place appear very nice). I dropped off my medium sized very friendly dog for a 5 day stay and paid for extras including day care and a dog wash. When I asked what these extras included or consisted of, I got a very mixed and confusing explanation. I asked for a tour and got one with hesitation. (the place is dark and depressing with no real green space outside - I was wondering the whole time where my dog would go to the bathroom?). During the tour the staff quickly took my dog and put him in a kennel..there were different sizes and I never was given a choice or an option or an explanation of what I had paid for..the communication was very poor. I left feeling a bit uneasy. 5 days later I returned to pick up my dog. The staff had no idea who I was or who my dog was when I showed up. They had him in a different place because he had just been washed. (I must say he was very clean and did smell good - one positive thing) They brought him out to me and said nothing.. there was no thanks for coming, no info whatsoever about his stay, nothing. The communication was very weird and cold and non-existent. I left and my dog peed on the floor on the way out...guess he had been holding it for a while. more

Bad Customer Service!! 6/12/2010

I was recommend to Brickyard Kennels because I had adopted a new dog. He is an adorable dog, but does have some issues. The beginning of his life wasn't good. He lived on a chain. He didn't have very good socialization skills with other dogs. My vet said Roxanne at Brickyard was excellent with dealing with this problem. Pros: None I can think of. Cons: They are rude to customers. more

very disturbed 1/20/2010

I never ever write a review but, I want to make sure that if you love your dog you know what you are getting with the daycare at Brickyard. I went to puppy class for 10 weeks and my husband had attended the same puppy class with our other dog last year. We liked the trainers and thought that they were great with the dogs. We were offered a few free days in doggy daycare for socialization. We took them for for one day each and they seemed tired when they came home so we thought great. The second time we took our older dog my husband told me that he cried and dug his claws in to not be brought back. This concerned me so I told him I didn't like that and I was going to go see what was going on, why would he not want to go. My husband told me that you have to call and tell them you are coming (are you kidding me) the idea is to pop in and see what's going on. Why would I need to warn them I'm coming. Good thing I didn't call I surprised the staff and as it turns out the dogs get 1 hour of playtime and the rest of the time in a kennel that is similar to what you would see at any shelter. It was quite cold back there with air conditioning blowing on them and my 100 pound dog was sitting there shaking in a kennel. I thought he was playing with other dogs for most of the time and resting for short periods of time. When I told the staff I wasn't happy that I felt like I was misled they tried to tell me that they explained this is how they do it which they did not. Also the website very clearly misleads you as to what you are paying for. Had I known they were gettting only one hour play times I would have perhaps brought them in for just that hour. I work from home so my dogs get to stay in a nice warm home all day playing with each other and can drink when they want (no water bowl was in the kennel) go potty when they want to and other wise have a nice day. I was only taking them there for them to be able to socialize with other dogs not to board them. I will not be going back, I felt I was very misled. I would have felt different had this been explained up front. Pros: price - you get what you pay for Cons: only one hour a day play more

Brickyard is great! 12/18/2008

I have been using Brickyard as my kennel, groomer and training facility for the past 6.5 years. They have been great with everything! The trainers are fantastic and have helped me a lot with my dog who was attacked. She goes to their doggy day care (which is NOT just sitting in a kennel) - they work on training as she socializes. I see their trainers in off leash areas working with dogs and clients, which is nice to see; as you know they are committed to the dogs success in all settings. Doors open at 8am - and staff is there much earlier than that taking care of dogs (not opening at 9).. some of the training classes go until 8 or 8:30 - again, meaning staff are there with the dogs very late. They are reasonably priced - know my dogs, and my dogs love it there! (so does the cat for that matter) Pros: Location, price, highly trained staff. Cons: can book up quickly on holidays.. but maybe that's a pro. more

The only place I would take my dogs 12/9/2008

Brickyard Kennels has saved my dogs life, they have helped me work him through so many different problems. Whether it was through once a week training, weekly daycare, or long term boarding when needed. I have never even wondered if they treated my dogs well or not when they stay at Brickyard, the fact that my dogs know the mornings they are going to stay for the day, and they go completely crazy trying to get to the car, and once we get there they run straight for the front door to get in. They are always greeted by being called by there names and taken back. How the dogs react to getting to go is more than enough for me. They took care of my dogs this past year when we had a medical emergency, it was very nice to focus on things other than worrying if my dogs were being taken care of. Anyone who posts saying that they don't seem like dog lovers has never really been in there, and seen that every single person who works there does it because they are dog(animal) lovers. I really can't say enough good about these guys. I just let my dogs make the decision for me. Pros: my dogs have a good place to go while I'm at work or out of town Cons: really can't think of anything I don't like more

Like a Guatemalan prison, for dogs! 11/21/2008

I initially learned of Brickyard kennel from their ad in the phone book which advertises: "All day play, snooze the night away." Like another reviewer on here, I was pleased with the website full of pictures of happy dogs running around playing in what looks like a clean, well-lit facility. I went in with my German Shepherd and asked for a tour. The receptionist was not exactly warm, but the manager named Heather was very nice and showed me the back. It turns out the website's pictures are of the training room, which turned out to be the only clean room of the building that I saw. First of all, the temperature where the dogs are kept is not controlled. In the groomery there was an old blonde woman yelling at the dog she was grooming, such as "Think about what you're doing." It's a dog, lady, it has no idea what you're saying. There are two smaller rooms of kennels and private suites that seemed nice, but then there are the two very large rooms, where the majority of the dogs are kept. They are dark, noisy, and holy hell dirty. My German is normally fearless, but this place had him foaming in the mouth with nervousness. The real dealbreaker was when I learned that the daycare is keeping the dog kenneled all day. The joyful playing depicted on the website is only for an hour each day, and you have to pay extra for it. Talk about false advertising! No thank you! more

What you see is not what you get 10/12/2008

Dog lovers... go somewhere else! I found Brickyard Kennels online and was impressed by their Web site. I called for more information and talked to a friendly woman who made me feel comfortable boarding my dog there. When I dropped my dog off, it was a completely different experience. The girls at the front weren't as friendly as I would have expected, and they were clueless about what services I had ordered. I had to remind them twice that we had reserved a premium room including play time for my dog. When I had asked to see the room my dog was in, it was completely different than what the Web site had promoted. I was then told that the staff would leave at 5 p.m. and wouldn't be back until 9 a.m. the next morning. That meant that my dog was locked in a room with no human interaction or way to relieve himself for 16 hours. Unbelievable! I was expecting the personal service and attention that the Web site promoted, but that is obviously not their intention after you drop your dog off. When we picked up our dog the next day, the lady made sure to let us know that she had to clean up our dog's throwup. He was obviously distressed and upset and got sick. It's almost like she expected an apology for her having to clean up after him. Perhaps if he had a place to get sick / go to the bathroom, it would have been a different story. Also, the pictures on the Web site display a much better environment than what I saw. I thought the place was a dump. Plus, the employees didn't seem like true dog lovers that were interested in my dog having a good experience, but houly employees just there to collect a paycheck. The energy was negative and made me feel very uneasy. If you plan on having your dog stay there overnight, make sure you check it out first. I found it to be dirty, depressing, and a poorly run business. I will never take my dog there again! Cons: Unfriendly and unprofessional staff, dirty depressing kennel, poor service more

Great animal vacation spot. 6/9/2008

I have english bulldogs that I am very, very protective over, the staff was nice and the dogs love it when we pull into the parking lot. more

Best Dog Training in town! 5/10/2008

These guys are great! We were so embarrassed by our new dog we adopted- she would not stop barking at other dogs. The first class she learned not to bark and the rest of the class was so fun we signed up for more just because Lily loved it so much. The instructors were very knowledgable and fun! Pros: Great Price for great trainers Cons: There was city construction on the street at the time- it might be over more

Great people, my pets were very happy! 2/5/2008

We loved our experience with Brickyard Kennel. Their staff was so nice! We went on vacation for a week to california and our little girl was worried about her dogs so we called and they actually got our pets and let our little girl talk to them on the phone. It made our vacation that much better knowing our puppies were well taken care of. They even offered to e-mail pictures of our pets to us in California. more

worst kennel I have ever seen 12/2/2007

The price isn't bad and the grooming wasn't priced bad either. The people that work there are not very friendly and when I went back to get my dog I was horrified that I had left her there even once. It's a medium sized very dark, smelly room with chainlinked kennels. I couldn't believe my eyes. I don't think that the people who leave their animals there ever ask to see where they are leaving them because if they did they would never leave them there. It's very sad and i will never go back. Pros: not a bad price Cons: dark, not clean, indoor kennels more
