This is the second time I visited this restaurant. As always, I find the staff very helpful and the service great. more

Good for Nashville, but the bar is Really Low 10/8/2011

The chowder wasn't bad. Cole slaw was decent. The fried seafood platter that I had was something I could easily prepare for myself at home. Someone told me that the sushi is good here, but I noticed that it comes prepared out of the kitchen. NEVER EAT SUSHI IN A RESTAURANT UNLESS YOU CAN SEE IT BEING MADE. I'd go back if someone twisted my arm, but this place is pretty forgettable. more

Best Seafood in Nashville 3/7/2011

My wife and I ate here on a Sunday afternoon about 4 pm. It was not busy so we did not have to wait to be seated. There were lots to chose from on the menu. The New England Claim chowder was really good. I had the seafood platter which was great. I did not care for the coleslaw, but I just did not like the particular flavor. I'm sure lots of people like the coleslaw they serve. For two entries, two cups of soup, and no alcohol drinks came to less than $40. I felt the price was fair value for the food we ate. Although I have had better seafood in towns on the coast, I have never head better seafood inland. more

Meh.. 6/18/2009

Growing up in New England, I guess I took all the fresh fish for granted. I was excited to try fish and chips here, and was greatly disappointed. I got small pieces of chewy, nasty frozen fish (fresh cod tastes GOOD, not like this) in a cornmeal batter. It's not traditional in that way. I was going to order fried clams, but I'm happy I didn't judging from the fish & chips. The chips were good though, came in a paper bag like on the pier. If you want better fish & chips, go to Dan McGuinness or Blackstone. They both have passable versions (at least the fish part). I haven't tried their sushi, heard it is pretty good though. Pros: Sam on tap Cons: How about using beer batter rather than cornmeal? more

Great food 2/12/2009

I went to Battered and Fried for lunch with some coworkers. The food was excellent (I had coconut shrimp) and the service was great. A little pricey though. Pros: Ambience, great food Cons: Not much parking, expensive more

Friendly local pub 9/27/2008

We recently visited Batter'd and Fried for a birthday party. We enjoyed our evening. The customer service was very efficient. All the waiters were very friendly. We first started off at the bar, somewhat disappointed with the lack of beers on tap. We ordered Jalapeno Chips at the bar which were very tasty. At dinner, we ordered the Fish and Chips and Coconut Shrimp. Both dishes were very good. Unlike other neighborhood pubs that come and go, we believe Batter'd and Fried will be around for a long while. Pros: Service, Local pub Cons: Beers on Draft more

WONDERFUL 8/10/2008

GREAT TO GET HADDOCK IN THE SOUTH. GREAT SERVICE AND WHAT A FUN LOCATION. WILL KEEP COMING BACK OFTEN. BRAVO!!! Pros: LOCATION Cons: PARKING more

Oysters and Haddock delight! Great service! Great place to be anytime!! 5/31/2008

I found that the service and the friendly atmosphere by both workers and patrons made for a wonderful experience. Meeting Manager Joe made it obvious why this restaurant will stay successful for many years. Wish we had this place in Pennsylvania! more

Great Variety 5/26/2008

This has become one of my favorite restaurants in Nashville. They have such a great variety that ranges from sushi and salads to fried fish and fries. Everything I have ever ordered here has been wonderful and my picky husband will agree. The service is great and the servers always have a great knowledge of the menu. If you haven't been here, go as soon as possible. Pros: great food and service Cons: limited seating more

Yummy sushi and friendly staff 5/6/2008

I visited here today for the first time since discovering the wonderful little place that is five points. As a Southern California native I have had the pleasure of enjoying a great deal of fresh seafood and sushi my entire life, and moving to Nashville limited that experience to some degree. I took a chance on this place, thinking that if nothing else I could order a burger or something. Well I went for it and ordered two sushi rolls along with salad and miso. The meal was fantastic. The presentation was lovely, the wait staff was attentive, friendly and social. Pros: Friendly wait staff, fresh sushi, great area Cons: I visited on lunch and couldnt have a beer! more

Mixed bag 1/25/2008

This was my first experience eating at B&F. Pros: food, service Cons: lack of items listed on the menu more

If the food is not going to have any taste, it should be calorie free too :-) 12/26/2007

I have slowly been finding my way around East Nashville. It's a hip place, you see. Finally one day I spotted the Boston Based restaurant Batter'd & Fried... I have also read many a cautionary review of the place. Mainly the Nashville Scene and a lot of how many folks were weary of just fried stuff. I don't have a problem with fried stuff, especially if you have ever been to Cape Cod and had their fried clams! (wow) It is also a treat to go to Kearney, NJ and sample *their* fish and chips, made by real Scottish and Irish folks. Pros: East Nashville - fairly accessible parking - hipster heaven Cons: Bland food - cant recall any flavor more

Some of the best fried food in Nashville 11/21/2007

My dad took me here several times when they first opened up, and I have been begging him to take me back! The foodis INCREDIBLE, mainly the spicy stuff and the fish and chips. It's cool and original how they also serve your french fries in a separate paper bag with your meal. The price is also pretty reasonable. My mouth waters just thinking of this place. The bartender was also very friendly with us and we had pretty good service. Highly recommended! Pros: GREAT food, service, and friendly employees Cons: Limited parking more

So yummy! 7/2/2007

My husband and I eat out a lot at the same old places so we decided to cross the river and venture to the East side to try out this restaurant. I have to say I was scared, since I had read so many bad reviews here. We really weren't expecting much but everything was really great! We ordered fried mushrooms as an appetizer and they tasted just like I expected, which was good but I can see how someone might refer to them as ""so-so"" since they are just fried mushrooms - no bells and whistles - so if you want gourmet fried mushrooms, you might want to go somewhere else. Pros: non smoking, sushi, service Cons: expensive beer more

Great New England Style Seafood! 6/18/2007

For someone born and raised on New Enlgland Style seafood, I enjoyed B&F immensley! The service was terrific, and the food was authentic. I've read many of the negative reviews, and have to think these people have lived with the Captain D's version of seafood too long. This is by far the best fried seafood I have had in the south. The atmosphere is nice, love the Red Sox memorabilia. Just had Father's Day dinner with my borther and Father, both New Englander's, and we were all impressed. The owner, who happens to be fro the next town over from my hometown, sat down and spent an hour talking to us. Great place to catch a Sox game and eat some reasonably priced food. If you are looking for a salad, and some wine go somewhere else, this place is not for you! If you are a Yankees fan, go somewhere else, this place is not for you either. If you love New England Seafood, good service, and the Red Sox you will LOVE this joint. I live in Mount Juliet and make the 30 min. drive a few times a month, its worth it. Pros: Service, Food, atmosphere Cons: A sister restraunt in Mt. juliet, occasional Yankee fans more

in response to ""gretchen"".. 4/12/2007

Had to comment on the comment that ""grechen"" left.. i'm actually the mother of two of those 8 kids that they were seated next to and I feel I have to defend battered and fried a wee bit. I think the food is also sort of ""so so"" but, as far as the wait staff not caring about our kids - you are totally wrong, sort of - see they cared about our kids in a different way than you were hoping.. They went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable and enjoying our small birthday celebration. I apologize for seeming to ""not care"" about our children who were, actually, not misbehaving at all (but, I'll cut you some slack - when there are 8 of 'em, even well behaved children are loud). more

Great Service & Great Sushi 4/9/2007

The sushi is fabulous and I eat it here about three times a week. The servers are wonderful, especially Nate. In response to a previous review that complains about the frozen sushi fish, I'd like to say that frozen fish is a reality we all have to face in the great landlocked state of Tennessee...unless it is catfish of course! Pros: Service, sushi & great music Cons: None for me so far more

Avoid the fried dishes....mushy, too greasy 2/28/2007

Decent atmosphere, no smoking was nice....but the fried food was HORRIBLE. We started off with the fried calamari....it was mushy and way too greasy. Ive had better out of a box at the grocery store. Then I got the fish and chips and my girlfriend got the fried sampler platter. Same story. Everything was soft and mushy and way too greasy. It was really pretty gross. Maybe they have good sushi or soup, but the fried food is off limits. Pros: Atmosphere, Environment Cons: Fried Food, Beer Prices more
