Pilates with a great attitude! 9/11/2010

I've been going to Body Tonic for about seven years--and have never failed to have a great work out. The instructors are wonderful, and also different from each other so that you can have a variety of experiences, depending on what you are looking for. I have done everything from classes to workshops to private and semi-private training. Every person I have worked with has made sure that I worked at the right pace for me and that I was challenged at the same time. The owner, Jennifer Deluca, is hands on and very involved in the business, and available for questions. The folks at Body Tonic have seen me through through two births--and both times I was working out nearly right up to the end. One of my favorite things about it is that while everyone takes Pilates seriously, there is room for a relaxed atmosphere. It is as great a place for beginners as it is for Pilates fanatics. I always leave feeling amazing and fortified to face life's challenges! more

Best Place for Pilates 9/7/2009

Over 10 years ago, I was in constant lower back pain due to scoliosis and I was going to my chirorpractor more and more. We discussed adding Pilates .I tired Body -Tonic and I have been doing weekly one-on one sessions ever since and it has been the best thing for me! Over the years I have had many of the instructors(some as apprentices) due to my schedule and have been so pleased with them all. Some of those who are still there are Peggy, both Emilys, Monica and the owner Jennifer Deluca(author of ""Pilates for Wimps""). Working with a variety of instructors has been a great experience because they have varied backgrounds but they all know how to adjust to each client. Over the year my core strength, flexibility and posture have improved greatly and I have been able to do a series of Pilate exercises on a daily basis at home..Most importantly my lower back pain is basically gone! I owe lots of thanks to everyone at Body-Tonic! Pros: amazing, skilfull, caring instructors, owner and desk person more

Goodbye Lower Back Pain, Hello Abs! 7/22/2009

I went into Body Tonic because of persistent lower back pain and it has made my lower back pain nearly non-existent. I started with the introductory 2 privates for $99 and took the great Emily T. I then bought a ten pack of privates, which gives you a slight discount per session over the regular rate. They also offer classes for $20 for an hour or $10 for a half-hour as well as semi-privates which significantly reduce the cost. When my physical therapist recommended pilates, I had no clue what pilates was and thought it seemed too expensive. In my opinion it is much more valuable than physical therapy and is worth the cost. It is expensive but for someone like me with chronic lower back pain it has been amazing and has helped me like nothing has before, including chiropractic care or physical therapy. The instructors are down to earth and so nice and the studio could not be more pleasant. Although I felt extremely awkward and out of place at first (I am a 28 year old man), those feelings quickly went away. I have been doing it for two months and you can see the difference in my stomach and my back pain is so much better. A nice thing too is that you can make all your appointments online or over the phone with the amazingly friendly desk staff. Every teacher has been unique and great in their own way, but I cannot recommend Emily T., Traci, and Jenifer (the owner) enough. Pros: Skill of Teachers, Atmosphere, Great for Begginers more

big waste of money 2/27/2008

I went here on the intro promo offer. The teacher was not very nice--I definitely had much better teachers in a group class at the Y--and when I had to cancel my next class they charged me full price, even though I called 21 hours before--their policy is 24 hours notice. I don't recommend this spot--there are nicer places in the neighborhood. more

Pilates Heaven 4/23/2007

I started working with the amazing instructors at Body Tonic several years after having a two knee surgeries (torn ACL and followup). I'd had more than a year of traditional physical therapy and worked on my own to get my body back into shape and alignment, but no luck. Body Tonic pilates literally fixed me and allowed me to keep running, skiing, and generally staying strong without any significant pain. They also trained me through two pregnancies, and I'm convinced I'd have wound up with c-sections if not for the great prep work they did with me. Plus, pilates got me back to my pre-preg weights both times within weeks. I work out at the Flatbush studio, which is bright, clean and cheerful. The staff is well-trained, dedicated, focused, professional and smart. I'll probably go there the rest of my life! more

Best Pilates Studio in Brooklyn 4/19/2007

Knowledable and passionate instructors. Clean environment. Fun classes. Thorough knowledge of the work. If you want the proper pilates technique and top notch instruction then this is the place for you! Instructors focus on your goals and work hard with you to get you there within your means. Recommended highly and without reservation! Pros: Price, clean environment, fantastic instructors Cons: Weekend classes fill up quickly so it's best to reserve or you'll lose out. more

Damn, if I'm not standing straighter! 1/31/2007

Damn, if it isn't true! The people at Bodytonic, led by the inestimable owner Jennifer DeLuca, actually care. And not in a sticky, gooey way. They are tough, demanding, and they have changed this ole' gal's body in a big way, making me more aware of posture, musculature, and the importance of core strength, this is especially important for us as we age, because of deteriorating discs from wear and tear.\r \r The classes are great, led by students and experts, alike, costing from very little to not much, accordingly. Highly recommended are privates with Caitlin, Emily or Jennifer herself.\r \r the place is great. Pros: their knowledge about the body and their dedication more

Body Tonic is the best! 12/25/2006

I have been going to Body Tonic for over a year. The instructors are wonderful, as is the owner, Jennifer. She truly cares about her clients and makes an effort to get to know all of them. The gym offers a wide range of classes at various times of day, such as Mat, Mat/Springs, and Ball. They also have private sessions on the equipment, which really lets you experience exercises not done in classes and allows the teachers to cater to your specific needs. Body Tonic very much focuses on classical pilates work and the teachers use an excellent combination of breathing, stretching, and active exercises. I recently tried out another pilates studio in the area, looking for a change in my pilates routine. Although the experience was interesting and I found a teacher I liked, the classes and professionalism of Body Tonic could not be matched. I quickly returned to Body Tonic, my true pilates home! Pros: excellent instructors, wide range of classes, affordable pricing, variety of services Cons: mat classes can be big more

Fear Not the Reformer 5/1/2005

I am not a gym-goer. I am barely even an exerciser. And yet I look forward every week to my session at BodyTonic. Pilates is a great way to improve your physical conditioning, and BodyTonic is, frankly, the only place worth going to. The atmosphere is friendly, professional, and always tailored to each person's physique and abilities. Go, now! Seriously, get off your computer right now and go! more

The Best Pilates Gym in Park slope 4/21/2005

I attend pilates sessions at body tonic and it has been one of the most rewrading and life improving things I've done for myself. My instructor Susan is awesome!. She very knowledgeable about pilates and she is very attentive. Susan always makes sure my form is correct so I get the best out of our excercises. I started with 10 sessions and those ran out too fast so I signed up for 20 more. The space itself is intimate but very comfortable and full of natural light from two large windows in the front. They are curtained to give client their comfort and privacy. The staff is very friendly and positive. This is the first time I've ever been disappointed when my workout session is over! Pros: Knowledgeable staff, Immacculate Facility, Positive Enviornment more

simply the best 12/18/2004

The level of expertise at this studio is yet to be rivaled. I have lived in several areas of brooklyn and as a confirmed Pilates Addict I have tried them all. The level of instruction, quality of care and diversity among the staff makes this my favorite place to train. All of the instructors are knowledgeable and the vibe is welcoming and supportive. The group classes are fun and informative and I've worked with 3 different Instructors for privates on the equipment, (BT has at least 2 of everything) all were great and unique. If I move again, I'll still be doing Pilates at BodyTonic. Pros: level of instruction, vibe, pricing more
