terrible customer service 10/19/2011

I am extremely surprised by, and frankly suspicious of, the high number of recent positive reviews here. The average Yelp rating, based on reviews covering a longer timeframe, is much more representative of my experience with Apartment Hub.\r \r I was interested in several apartments on the Apartment Hub website. I called repeatedly about each apartment before getting a return phone call. When they did call back, they usually told me that the apartment in question had already been rented. Eventually, Leslie showed me an apartment I liked, but the process of procuring a lease to sign took three weeks. I was very surprised that even telling her I was ready to per her full-month fee did not lead her to return my phone calls any faster. Eventually, she sent me the lease for the apartment. The lease required some revision, as she forgot the details that we had agreed upon, but once the lease was perfected, I immediately signed. I was particularly annoyed by the fee because I felt that she had only detracted from the apartment-hunting experience. However, I assumed that I'd never have to work with Leslie again, so I paid the fee and moved on.\r \r I moved after a year in the apartment because the landlord, at the advice of Apartment Hub, wanted to increase the rent exorbitantly (>10%). Thus, I had to work with Apartment Hub again when they were trying to find a new tenant. \r \r Due to the asking rent that exceeded market norms, Apartment Hub had to show the apartment to 10-15 people before it was rented. They did not provide me sufficient advance notice for viewings (often less than one hour). I was usually at work when they called to say they were coming by shortly, and I was unable to go home and straighten the apartment before they showed up. There were also several times when I returned home to find that they had left the door unlocked after their visits. \r \r On other occasions, I was home when they brought people by to see the apartment. Mark was much better than Leslie in these in-person encounters. He was polite during his visits with prospective tenants. Leslie, however, told the tenants in front of me that I had arranged the apartment poorly and that it could look better. She blatantly exaggerated to the prospective tenants how close the apartment is to public transportation and how low the utilities bills are. She told them there were no better deals in the neighborhood, which was not true. At the end of the viewing, she led the prospective tenants out the door to show them the parking, and then she left without thanking me or even saying goodbye.\r \r In order to find a new tenant, Apartment Hub and the landlord were forced to lower the asking rent dramatically. Apartment Hub knew that I was moving because of the increased asking rent, and yet they never came back to me to offer the lower asking rent that they ultimately offered the new tenant. I was disappointed by this, as I would have considered staying in the apartment if I had known that the rent was not increasing drastically. However, Leslie did not offer this, as I would not have had to pay her a fee if I had stayed, and she got a fee from the new tenant. \r \r I was further disappointed when I heard from the new tenant that Leslie lied to him, telling him that I paid the inflated rate that they were initially trying to charge him. When he questioned whether the asking rent was the market rate, she told him that I had been paying that rate during my time in the apartment, which was not true. Ultimately, he played hard-to-get long enough that she lowered the asking rent for him.\r \r The apartment I rented through Apartment Hub was great. However, my experience with Apartment Hub was quite unsatisfactory. more

Very knowledgable and helpful. 10/1/2011

This is a great apartment broker service. They know the area and they know their listings. I know quite a few grads from Harvard and MIT have worked with Apartment Hub to solve their housing needs. I saved a lot of time because the already know all the ins and outs of the properties they represent so they saved me a lot of time. Highly recommend. more
