Must see! 8/26/2008

This museum is a must see for fans of all types of athletic competition. I expected the museum to be small and boring at first? boy was I wrong! The museum has something for fans of sports, triumph and human achievement. You can see memorabilia like David Tyree?s New York Giant?s Super Bowl helmet and the Knick?s jersey Willis Reed limped out on the court in! For those who got hooked on the Olympics this summer there are great displays on Phelps, the 1996 U.S. gymnastics team, the 1992 ?Dream Team,? and my personal favorite? the 1980 U.S. men?s hockey team. If you are coming to New York don?t miss this museum. Pros: Great experience, Great gift shop, no waits, good price Cons: None! more

History you get to touch 8/25/2008

This place was GREAT. I went down to the museum just after it opened, and they literally have something to suit everyone. While I was there I saw a family including a captivated grandma and a newborn, all having a blast (although the newborn probably didn't really care much about Lance Armstrong's jersey or the Bulls' championship rings). I really like that the museum is also home to the women's sports hall of fame, and as a kid I wore out my ""League of Their Own"" VHS, so it was great to see the exhibit on the actual league. The great thing about the museum is that you actually get to participate in a lot of the exhibits, including the hockey exhibit where you can put your face into the goalie's mask and see what it would really be like to have shots fired at you from left and right...yikes!\r \r All in all an awesome trip and museum! Pros: Interactive, Close to transportation, Educational more

Pleasantly impressed 8/25/2008

I only visited SMA because a group of friends came into town who wanted to check it out. I was not that excited to go, as sports in general are not my thing-but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. I was incredibly impressed with the amount of detail that went into each exhibit it. The informational displays capture all different type of information and I did not feel that any one sport over took the majority of the museum. My favorite parts of the museum were the interactive. My 7 year old nephew, who I took to the museum a few weeks after my initial visit, still talks about rowing and skiing machines. In all, this is a NYC attraction which should appeal to everyone, visitors and natives. Everyone I have sent their have also been extremely impressed. Pros: Interactives more

Best Museum in New York City - Hands Down! 8/8/2008

I am NOT a sports fan but I LOVED this place - so did my kids and husband. The kids loved the movies, the games and the fact that you can hold bats used by famous baseball players. The museum was so much more than I thought it would be - it has different rooms for most sports. My favorite had to be the one with the real racecar in it even though I have never watched a car race in my life. My husband loved the Heisman Trophy and I liked the Billie Jean King exhibits. There really is something for everyone here. Also, I think a lot of people would like the Olympics room as the games are this summer. more

BEST MUSEUM EVER! 8/8/2008

THIS PLACE RULES!!!!! They have amazing artifacts and are really fun and interactive. Not to mention -- I actually learned something walking through the different galleries. I brought my little cousins (5, 7 and 14 years old) and each of them thought the place was, and I quote ""sooooo awesome!!!!""\r \r This space is perfect for families, schools, camps, etc or just for anybody in the area who is looking to be blown away by an amazing new NYC venue.\r \r A++++ Pros: EVERYTHING Cons: NOTHING more
