I was initially very impressed and pleased with this vet. Unfortunately when it came down to vaccinating my puppy we did not see eye to eye. They insisted that he needed to be vaccinated every 2 weeks until 20 weeks of age. Which came out to a total of FIVE DA2PPV. I told them I did not want the extra two and thought it was very excessive. They told me that it was standard procedure and that any vet I went to would tell me the same. So when I went to take him to swimming classes they wouldn't accept my paperwork because they had written on it that he REQUIRED TWO more vaccines. I called them up, they refused to change it and insisted he was NOT safe to be around other dogs until he got the last one. \r \r I very promptly took him to another vet and they took a look at him. I showed him his record, asked his opinion, and he told me that he was perfectly up to date and healthy, no need to over vaccinate, especially for no reason. \r \r I would NOT recommend taking your dog there. Unless you dish out the cash and over vaccinate your dog then they'll make it so you can't take your puppy to any classes or facility! I put my dog first, they can line they're pockets somewhere else. I'm not putting my dog at risk. more

I will never take my dogs here ever again. They made it very obvious that they are only after your money. I had asked them about bringing my two dogs in to get shots. They said that they could fit them in at a certain time in the afternoon. I told them that I would call back if I would be coming in. A few days later I get a bill for a no-show, even though I had never scheduled the appointment. When I called to dispute, they were very rude and refused to dismiss the charges. more

If you want a place to go to try and fix your pet and not get rushed in and rushed out...this is THE place. If you are only interested in saving a buck and the utmost health care is not what you seek for your pet...then look somewhere else. Those people that rate Cooke Vet as a 1 are looking for a bargain. Those that rate it a 5 are looking for what Cooke Vet is...a high quality health based hospital whose main goal is to heal pets. period. Those places that get you in and get you out..are really after your money, not Cooke Vet. more

You Don't Get What You Pay For 4/26/2010

We have been bringing our 4 cats to Cooke Veterinary Medical Center for a couple of years. Although I have felt that their prices are extremely high, I liked Dr. Cooke and thought that my pets were getting the best possible care there. That is, until this past weekend. We were told that one of our cats, who is 15 years old, seriously needed a dental cleaning. They presented every possible scenario that could result from not getting it done (pain, infection, with resulting organ failure, etc., etc.) but they really don't discuss the risks of putting an older animal under. Bloodwork was done in advance, and everything was found to be normal. (Incidentally, Dr. Cooke was not the vet who did the procedure.) During the cleaning, two teeth needed to be extracted. This procedure, including the bloodwork, feline leukemia/heartworm test (required by the clinic), medication, extractions, etc. cost in excess of $700.00. Afterwards, we got a call saying that our cat could not be picked up because she had not come out of the anasthesia. We finally got her, but had to bring her to an Emergency Veterinary Clinic, because she was totally unresponsive. The vet there told us that she had apparently suffered some sort of neurological ""event"" while under anasthesia. After she spent the entire weekend there, fortunately we were able to bring her home. She is ok, but not quite herself, and we can only hope she'll continue to improve. To make matters worse, the vet from Cooke never even called us to see how our cat is doing. The total bill for this fiasco came to over $1,200.00. I am just thankful that our cat lived. She was perfectly healthy and very active, with no apparent illnesses before the dental procedure. I don't know if the vet at Cooke did anything to cause this reaction, but I now feel that paying the most possible money for veterinary care is not the answer. more

Cooke Veterinary Medical Center is Awesome 9/16/2009

Cooke Vet Clinic is by far the best vet I have been to. Dr. Cooke truly cares about your pet and spends time explaining procedures, diets, medications etc. You are never rushed and she spends quaility time with each pet at each appointment. She has a holistic view that is focused on healing. I transferred all my pets over to her clinic and I am very happy! My dog gets excited to go see her! The staff is awesome also - everyone has a great attitude and are really eager to help you and your pet. more

VERY expensive 7/28/2009

I brought my dog there 4 years ago when he was very ill. A doctor quickly diagnosed him and he was soon well. Since we have seen other doctors including Dr. Cook and get very few answers but plenty of bills. We are constantly being asked to have additional tests done. I feel like they drain every penny out of you. Pros: Large clean waiting room Cons: Expensive, average quality more

#1 Vet!! 8/15/2008

Cooke Veterinary is the best vet that we have been to. They are compassionate and knowledgable. The entire staff is always friendly and willing to assist you, no matter what your need. I would definately recommend them to anyone looking for a new vet. more

Excellent Care 4/12/2008

I cannot speak for the reviewer who feels that Dr Cooke pushes vaccinations but it has been my experience that they do just the opposite. Dr. Cooke is one of the top vets in the country and takes a very different approach to animal care then anyone we have gone to in the past. Pros: personal service, experience more

The best service and care around 6/17/2007

Dr. Cooke is the best Doctor I have been to. I have not had the pleasure of using the other Doctors there in her facility but I am sure they are all wonderful like her. The entire staff is friendly and helpful in every way. They are top notch knowledge and explain everything in great detail. I reccomend them highly. This is coming from someone that used to work in a Animal Hospital here in Virgina. So I have seen good and bad. They are the best. Five stars all the way!! Pros: Customer service and knowledge Cons: None at all. more

Great Vet Hospital 5/21/2007

Excellent practice! We have four dogs, one of which is a rescue who had several problems. Both doctors are exceptional. They are caring, knowledgeable professionals. The entire staff is friendly and helpful. They are very thorough but do not generate revenue with unnecessary tests. Both doctors will take the time to explain the diagnosis and the treatment. You can ask all the questions you want and get answers instead of being rushed out the door. We first went there after our vet of many years moved away and we had to have our dog of almost 18 years put down. It was the first time they had seen us and they treated us with compassion and caring during a very difficult time. They will let you wait, or even observe, while your pet is in surgery. What a great place for healing! We will never go anywhere else! Pros: Knowledgeable staff, well equipped facility more

Won't use again! 2/11/2007

Cooke vet clinic is all image... they push tests and treatments for your pet to make money, plain and simple. They misdiagnosed our pet time and time again and after much money was spent we finally went elsewhere and received answers and an effective treatment. We felt like they just wanted us to keep coming back and should have referred us to an Internal Medical Specialist after a bunch of visits and no answers. Pros: Nice, spacious waiting room area. Cons: Very, very inexpensive. more

the doctors are great; best care given my pet 12/25/2006

I took my dog to The Cooke Veterinary Medical Center when she was ill. I was expecting to be rushed in and out as have been my experience with previous vets. My visit at The Cooke Veterinary Medical Center was terrific. The staff were kind and caring. They were patient with me and answered all of my questions. Dr. Cooke and Dr. McKendry were both extremely knowledgable and walked me through the 'work up' process so as to be put me at ease. I have never experienced my dog being so sick but I was very happy with the entire vet staff. I have never experienced any kind of service like that before. It is good to know that when I have a sick pet I will always rely on The Cooke Veterinary Medical Center. Also my dog loved going to the hospital for check ups after the illness. She never did that before! Pros: Hospital setting, helpful, healed my dog, made me and my dog comfortable Cons: no late night hours more
