I have a compression fracture of one of my vertebrae. While I was laying back with a heat pack, the PT told me that sometimes these fractures don't heal. I asked him why he would tell me that. I'm just getting started with PT and need encouragement. He quickly back peddled and said well, sometimes it just shows up on on an xray but is asymptomatic. Then he suggests ultrasound. I happen to know that ultrasound is contraindicated for fractures and tell him so. He says we can cheat and do a little, I said NO. Then he insists despite my protests on bringing me to a mirror to look at an old scar on my lower back from a prior surgery telling me know it hasn't healed properly. As its 2.5 years since the surgery and there's nothing I can do about this, I question the therapudic value of having me look at a scar I haven't looked at in 2 years.
