One of the best NYC experiences I've had was my makeup lesson with Shara last month. I loved the personalized experience; it's so much better than visiting a makeup counter and hoping for the best. I'm naturally a skeptic, but Shara won me over with her skill and the ability to choose my perfect colors! She is also wonderfully patient and had no judgements, which made learning some new techniques fun and easy. My makeup routine is much more simplified, and I tossed all the things that just were never really right for me. It felt wonderful! more

My makeup application was so fabulous last week that I really feel I need to let the world know!! I had an airbrush makeup application with individual lashes for a wedding I was attending, and honestly I have never looked and felt so pretty. Thankfully, I found Shara Makeup Studio online from reading the great reviews. I am a person who really does her research before going anywhere, and this makeup studio has flawless 5 star reviews on a plethora of sites. It was such a lovely appointment. First off, I never get to visit gorgeous hotels in NYC, and the studio is located at The Pierre. Everyone was so incredibly nice. Meeting Shara for the first time was like meeting a long lost friend; I trusted her right away. What made it even more comfortable was the makeup application took place in a private room- no one saw me have my makeup done, except for me, Shara, and her lovely assistant. Sometimes I feel a bit odd having my hair done when there is someone right next to me listening in, but that doesn't happen here. I love Shara's makeup line, and purchased a few things she used on me in my application (the primer is INCREDIBLE and made my skin look fuller, even, and smoothed out). I ended up walking out feeling like a goddess and the compliments came all night long. Professional Makeup Application with Shara may become an addiction!! I felt like a celebrity, and so pampered! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! more

Shara rocks! 7/18/2012

I used Shara for my wedding and loved it, so I decided that after all that madness settled, I should go for a real makeup lesson. I was really nervous because I am a ligloss and mascara type of girl and didn't want to learn something that would make me look overdone. My friend came with me and had a lesson with Amanda. What an amazing experience for both of us! We both were glowing, learned so many tips at the lesson, and picked up some amazing new products!! We went out afterwards and the guys chased us all night! We feel so much more confident with our applications now. The hype is seriously all TRUE! We are both SO HAPPY we went and will recommend Shara Makeup Studio to all our friends!! more

Perfection! 5/9/2012

My lesson with Shara was wonderful! Shara demonstrated each technique and instructed me to then attempt it myself; she was beyond patient every step of the way. At the end of the lesson I had a million questions about products, all of which she answered while never pushing me to purchase anything. My first lesson was a few months ago and post-lesson my make-up application ALWAYS LOOKS AMAZING! which is insane for any girl :o) :o) :o) I can't thank her enough, and I can?t wait to return to for additional lessons. more

Never Go to a Dept Counter Again 4/26/2012

Im always leary of the makeup counter staff that try to sell you EVERYTHING, their only regard to making their quotas. I am not sure if that is true or not, but it is how it feels. more

Flawless Makeup Application 4/22/2012

I loved having Shara do my airbrush makeup with lashes for a big event I attended on Saturday. I found Shara's makeup studio online, and from the moment I called, I knew I was going to be in great hands. I needed to look my most fabulous, as I was being photographed with an A list celeb that night. I was so much more confident knowing that my makeup would last all night and would not be shiny or oily. The lashes Shara used were perfection! She customized them towards my exact eye shape by using individual lashes in a few different sizes. I have had my makeup done for many different events over the years, and Shara's application was the most flawless and long lasting. I found her location at The Pierre Hotel to be beautiful and conveniently located. I will definitely be returning for all of my important events, and am booking a makeup lesson with her very soon. more

Best in the business!!!! 4/10/2012

After meeting with several makeup artists to do makeup for my wedding, it was very easy to make the decision to work with Shara for my big day. The trial session we had was beyond thorough and professional. She listened to everything I wanted and had her assistant take notes throughout the session, something no other makeup artist had done, which I found very impressive. Moreover, her prices were very reasonable compared to everyone else I met with. On my wedding day she did 7 people's makeup. Not only did everyone look gorgeous and natural, she made a huge effort to take the time with each bridesmaid to make sure they acheived the look that they wanted. After my wedding, several guests approached me asking who did everyone's makeup because it was ""stunning"" and ""flawless."" Recently I took a makeup lesson with Shara, which was so informative and useful. Her techniques were accessible and her explanations were very detailed and clear. She really is top of her field! more

Exceptional Makeup artist and teacher of Makeup Lessons 2/24/2012

I can't speak enough amazing words about Shara Strand. I initially met with her, because she was all the buzz in my circle of girlfriends. They had all booked one on one makeup lessons with her, and all looked flawless, happy, and glowing! I such saw a major improvement and they got so many compliments that I buckled down and called for my appointment. She changed my life with each stroke of the brush. The colors she picked for me were so different and so gorgeous. I've had makeup done at the Saks counter, but Shara showed herself as a true artist. I loved her location at The Pierre Hotel! I also love that I can now depend on someone who knows how to pick my perfect colors. Her line of makeup is reasonably priced and my skin has never looked better. She is kind and honest at the same time. Sometimes I cant believe I could look this good without going under the knife. I have learned so so much. My advice, if you are seeking a change in your makeup or a makeover in general, See Shara. She will make you very happy. more

Incredible lesson 12/15/2011

I was given a gift certificate from my sister to try Shara's makeup lessons, and thought the experience could not have been better. I've always been intimidated of makeup, never knowing the right way to apply and what colors and brushes to use. I needed A LOT of help (NYC is a touch place!) Shara was so patient and friendly, showing me a step by step way of creating a great natural look. Her assistant took notes the whole time (which are now hanging on my bathroom mirror!). Shara's teaching methods are spot on, and easy to follow. This was so much better than going to a department store. It was such personal attention, from someone who not only knew what she was doing, but loved teaching it. I didn't feel pressured in any way, but I did leave with brand new brushes, a couple skincare things, and makeup I can wear on an everyday basis. Since starting to do my new makeup routine, it seems like everyone has started to notice. I LOVE LOVE LOVE my new foundation and concealer. I finally found the right colors for my skin tone. The lesson was probably one of the best gifts I've ever received. Thanks Shara! more

Awesome makeover 9/28/2011

Shara is wonderful. I try to have my makeup updated every year or so, and I'd say that Shara's was the best makeover I've had--and that's compared to some name-brand cosmetic companies! Her teaching techniques are fabulous--including demonstration, practice, written instructions and no hard-sell. I left there with skin care and makeup tools for an enhanced natural look. The products are great with very reasonable prices. Go see Shara and you'll leave feeling very happy! more

The Best Makeup Lesson 9/21/2011

Just got home from a makeup lesson with Shara and I am totally and completely wowed!! Shara is such a creative artist, and knew exactly what she was doing. She helped me understand makeup, application, and colors in a way that no one has been able to explain it to me before. She was clear and professional, and is a total makeup expert. Another plus, is that she was so patient and such a sweetheart. I would and will recommend her to all my friends who are looking to take their beauty routine to the next level. I walked out buying incredibly beautiful eye and lip colors, as well as natural skin products and brushes. She is very reasonable in her fees, and her products are also a very good value for the quality. I like that she worked with all mineral products, as I am very careful what I use on my skin. One of the best things I have ever done for myself. more

Best Bridal Makeup 8/16/2011

My wedding was August 13th, 2011 at The Pierre and I had the best experience with Shara, doing my bridal makeup. I had four trials before Shara. I literally booked her on the spot. I literally felt like I was a princess. People kept commenting how I looked like I walked right out of a bridal magazine. I decided to have Shara airbrush my skin and it was the best decision, because my makeup lasted until 3 AM when I finally went to sleep. I felt natural, beautiful, and glamorous. She also did makeup for my 6 bridesmaids and Mom. Everyone looked stunning. Shara is such a professional and I am so lucky to have found her. more

Girls Night Out Makeup Instruction with Shara 7/13/2011

First of all, Shara is awesome!! I emailed her about setting up a really fun girls night out makeup lesson/makeup instruction for me and my six girlfriends. We scheduled it for a Thursday evening, after we all got off work. We had THE BEST time! One by one, we all had our time with Shara to learn about what colors and brushes we should be using to achieve the look we were going for. We all learned so much about makeup and skincare. She works with very high quality makeup, and we were able to purchase whatever we wanted after the lesson (but nothing was pushed). It's so important to have makeup instruction! You can have a ton of makeup, but without knowing the correct way to apply, it will never look the way you want it to. Added bonus was that Shara became like a friend to us. She is so professional, sweet, and talented. We wanted to go out with her after the party! We loved meeting her, because she is so passionate about beauty and makeup! It's always so much fun being around someone who loves what they do (and does it extremely well!). I have already told my sisters about her, and plan to go back for a fall look and a follow up lesson. more

Makeup Lesson Heaven!! 2/11/2011

Seriously, the makeup application and lesson I had with Shara was beyond words. My only complaint is that I didn't discover Shara till now! I went through my 20s without my new found makeup wisdom :( I was wearing tons of grays and dark lip kind of colors, and Shara completely changed that. She brought me to life and made me look so much brighter by using peach and bronze tones. Love it! Also, she taught me to do a smokey eye. Yep, she pretty much changed my world :) Such a great find, and she's such a doll. more

Shara is a MAKEUP GODDESS!!!! 2/3/2011

LOVE LOVE LOVE Shara!! I'm a total believer. Right off the bat I knew she was the bomb when I saw her beautiful display of makeup. We talked about my goals and I felt so comfortable in her hands. She really opened my eyes to new colors and how to do a smokey eye. She coached me through the lesson, and was such a great teacher. Total sweetheart! I'm not an easy customer, but I got a mineral foundation, two shadows, primer, and liner that looks amazing. SIDE NOTE---when I left, after the lesson, I had a really cute guy follow me five blocks down the street, and when I told him I was married, he STILL wouldn't leave me alone. He told me to congratulate my husband. And I never get guys following me down the street. Shara is incredible, hands down! more

The BEST Makeup Lesson! 1/28/2011

Shara is simply fabulous!! I'm so lucky to have gotten a last minute appointment with her for this week. She books fast! I called a couple weeks ago and there was no availability. But, I finally got in and I'm so pleased!! As a woman of Asian decent, I have an issue with my eyes looking small. I learned amazing tips at our lesson, and even how to apply individual lashes. She is a pretty great teacher. Even though the lesson was for 60 minutes, I was with her for 90. This is just what I needed to get out of my winter slump. I feel refreshed, educated, and beautiful! more

Beautiful Bridal Trial 1/19/2011

Two of my friends used Shara as their makeup artist for their weddings last year, and so I knew I had to book a trial! Also, I heard her name through another friend's recommendation. When, you hear someone's name a few times, you know she's gotta be great! AND SHE MOST CERTAINLY IS! Shara makes you feel comfortable and beautiful in her presence. She treated me with a lot of respect and care, was very patient with me, and made my bridal makeup trial a delight. I walked out so excited about my makeup. I booked her on the spot and one of the things I now look forward to most about my wedding day is having my makeup done. She's a master at individual lashes, they look so natural. I feel very lucky to have found and booked Shara! more

One word: AMAZING! 1/9/2011

I'd been hearing from a few friends about Shara (she did their weddings), and then found her reviews on Yelp. Yesterday was my makeup lesson. Words cannot describe how talented I think Shara is. She has a beautiful place on the UES, is an incredible makeup artist, and her ""bedside manner"" is the best I've found in NYC. Seriously, her makeup skills are TO DIE FOR! She has an uncanny ability to pick just the right color combinations, and know exactly how much or how little to apply. She is a true artist. She seems to do makeup with sincere passion, which I think ROCKS! The best part was, even though I had a full face of makeup, I felt so natural, beautiful, and glowy! The tips she gave me for skincare and makeup were invaluable. I wish I could have gotten back all the money I've spent along the years not really knowing what makeup and brushes to buy! Shara works with beautiful makeup products as well from different lines, and I loved how reasonably priced everything was! I seriously LOVE the shadows, mineral foundation, and brushes I got from her! I would not be surprised if Shara becomes a superstar in the makeup world very soon. She is one who absolutely deserves all the success! more
