I used to love going to this place back in the early 90s. I used to love the cots to rest up in at the end of my session. A lot has changed over the years. The cots have gone a...

Steamy! 12/31/2005

They have dry saunas and a steam room that will make you sweat like crazy. Don't worry though. They give you buckets of freezing ice water to cool you down. They also have these freezing pools that will get your circulation going. It's ladies only on Wednesdays. Gentlemen only on Sundays. The rest of the time its coed so consider yourself warned. Last time I checked the price was $25. more

Owner Message
  • Since 1892, we've served New York as the place to experience an unexpected paradise. Located between First Avenue and Avenue A (can you get a hotter location?), our newly renovated facilities are attracting a glorious clientele who prefer to pay as they go, or want a membership. The best part is that you never have to feel rushed to make a massage appointment. You can sign up when you get there.

It's a stress free zone designed to let you chill out and get some peace of mind. So just kick off your shoes and take-off your clothes and we'll give you a robe, some slippers and all the towels you want. You'll be in for a new old world pleasure of being totally relaxed and spanking clean.

Editorial
  • With no extras like towels or slippers--just shaving cream and a less than squeaky-clean environment--this place is not about aesthetics. It's about "shvitzing," the Eastern European bathing ritual which, in addition to a steam and cool down, consists largely of hanging out. In the cafe, fill up on beer and hearty Russian fare while watching TV, or catch rays on the roof deck. Take your choice of heat rooms: Dry, steam, scented, or the cherished Russian. After steam sessions, guests cool down in the "Ice Cold Pool" or triple-jet Swedish shower.
