amazing cut and nicest staff! 12/15/2009

I just had my first haircut at Projet. The staff greeted me by name, as I walked through the front door. That was only the beginning of an incredibly relaxing and accommodating experience. Ken was my stylist. He was so nice and actually listened to everything I said I was looking for. My appointment was only supposed to last 60 minutes, but he took his time and spent 90! I absolutely love my hair and can't wait to recommend this place to everyone I know. Pros: great cut/professional/warm staff/great price Cons: none! more

Glad I went to Julie! 2/28/2009

Julie is amazing!!! She is friendly and really took the time to understand the look I was going for. My dull, mousy brown hair transformed into the blond I had as a child. It looks natural and gave me my confidence back! Pros: Everyone working was genuienly friendly more

Best salon! 2/7/2009

If I could give this place 6 stars, I would. It deserves it!\r \r The atmosphere is very trendy and clean. The staff is extremely meticulous about the cleanliness [for example, my newly-cut hair did not remain on the floor for more than a few minutes, if that?AND anytime a brush or clip fell on the floor they would not reuse it!] and ensures that you are taken care of [putting on my robe for me, offering water, etc.]\r \r The real definitive point for me was when the girl that washed my hair, Lindsey, made sure to spend a few minutes analyzing the texture of my hair and the condition of my scalp and fitting a shampoo/conditioner to meet my specific needs. She spent no less than 10 minutes rubbing my head and neck! The seats themselves are recliners ? so it was a real treat!\r \r My hairdresser ? James ? was AMAZING. I told him I had not had a good haircut in years and he gave me exactly what I wanted even though I was very vague [texture, flow, not too short, etc.] I have extremely fine hair with certain parts in my hair that require not-your-average-cut and he made sure to make my hair look voluminous without making it look stringy! He is FANTASTIC.\r \r Lindsey also stuck by his side throughout almost the entire cut and blowdry, so I basically had two people working on my hair at once. It was a great experience.\r \r I originally went because of the deal on Lifebooker and the accolades given on other websites - I?d be hardpressed not to return regardless because James was just that great. I think my nomadic salon days are over! Pros: Everything! more

ADAM is a genius! 1/25/2009

I have straight, naturally 2-toned hair: light blond on top, dark underneath that's thick AND fine. I've spent 10 yrs learning not to get a regular snip--and to cut dry, not wet--or it shows ALL of the cuts, parts clump & flip in irregular patterns, etc. Well, I got a bad one about a month ago, at Space Salon & Spa in Astoria (stay away!!). Couldn't wait to get it fixed. After much web-searching, I found Projet F on lifebooker. I didn't book w/ lifebooker this time. I wanted advice on who to see. When I called Projet & explained, they recommended Adam Maclay. I was nervous--prices start at $60 (w/o dry)--a lot for something you might not like (as I did at Space--uggh!). But my fears were in vain. First, the service was amazing: took my coat off, wrapped me in a robe, gave me green tea, apologized for the wait (I was 15m early!). The shampoo was a 10-min massage in disguise. \r \r Then, Adam was nothing short of phenomenal. We talked for just a moment & he must have read my mind. Right away I saw that he knew what to do and just what I wanted. He did most of the cut dry, without me mentioning it, and spent over an hour on my already chin-length hair. He worked a miracle: amazing texture, body, shape, but sleek, spicy, and made my top layer of natural highlights go pop! Walking out into Soho, I looked & felt like a movie star. I was about $100 in all--but it was well worth it and I'll be going back in a few months. I'm sure that this cut will have a long shelf-life, even as it grows out, so I can wait longer for the $$. First and last time I ever got a cut like this was from an internationally known stylist for a photo shoot on my one and only hair-modeling gig--I didn't know it was possible to relive that experience! \r \r If you have never had a good haircut that made you feel amazing, fit your head, tamed your hair, and brought out the goddess in you, treat yourself to an afternoon with Adam. He'll set you up. Thank you Adam!! You're simply amazing. Pros: Ambience, service, professionalism, and skill Cons: A little $$ for a student, like myself, but worth it!! more

Amazing cut and color by Shawn La'Yave 12/1/2008

I have been going to Shawn for a while now and he's just amazing. I always leave looking like a fashion model. He is the best stylist I have ever been to. He has a great eye for color and styles. He is just amazing. He just started working on Projet F recently and I am now making the treck to Soho to see him! Great Spot and Shawn is absolutely the best. Highly Recommended!!!!\r \r Pros: Shawn! Cons: Small Space but they are moving...across the street..i think more

The best color and hair cut! 4/18/2008

I have Asian fine thin hair, and each time salons would recommend a body perm and my hair was damaged. I decided to find an Asian hair salon who understands Asian hair, I searched thru the internet and found Projet F.\r I was ecstatic when I found the stylist was from Singapore - which is where I was from originally.\r Friddie, the salon director, examined my hair and told me that I do not need a perm and also my hair was damaged, he told me that he could cut my hair to give it more body. The end results? - WOW, EXCELLENT! \r I never believe this could be done with a pair of scissors instead of chemical. Since the cut was great, I did have color and highlights - copper and red, it was great. The price was reasonable compare to any SOHO salons around. Thank you Pros: Great haircut and coloring more
