Don-Glo does over 35000 AAA calls per year, not including other organizations and private individuals we tow and or repair for. In February 2014 we handled over 7000 AAA road service requests in 28 days. Based on the very few bad reviews left in the almost 40 years of service, I would say not to bad!!! more

Top Notch 5/28/2014

Just wanted to let everyone know that I have seen some negative comments around this company but from my perspective these guys were top notch. I had a dual blow out this weekend on the GWB and they were wonderful. Dispatched the tow truck and held my car in storage over the holiday weekend. On Tuesday they order me two new continental tires and by COB on Wednesday they had them fitted and balanced and ready to go. Price was very fair and I found all the folks there friendly and helpful. I guess people do have bad days but this was a great experience for me and I would recommend these guys to my friends and family if they ever needed help in NYC. more

I would give them ZERO stars but I cant. Do NOT have your car fixed here. I dont care if you called AAA and they automatically towed it there. Kindly pay them for the tow if there was any balance due and walk around the area and find another place. DO NOT let these people TOUCH your car. It is worth the money to PAY someone to tow it to another shop. Ok so my boyfriend got his car towed there on a Friday night. The owner or the guy in charge, who is a complete A@& hole, told him the car needed a rack and pinion, OK we decided to get it fixed. My boyfriend picked the car up on Tuesday, which one thing in their favor was that the car was ready when they said it would be. Only problem, the car was SMOKING and had NO HORN. My boyfriend had to pull over to the side of the road to put antifreeze or the car would have overheated. Then the guy wants $250 to fix the horn. Calling around to other shops and to ford, I come to find out that the clock spring (the thing that makes the horn work) is frequently damaged during a wheel alignment. Which was done as part of the rack and pinion. So they cause damage to my car and want ME to pay for it. Now I think back to the smoking car and realize these shady folks (not the word I wanted to use...) intentionally drained all the anti freeze to cause further damage to my car...yep...these guys will do more damage to your car to try to keep you coming back. This is the OLDEST mechanics trick in the book...My brother in law is a mechanic and told me thats the trick of the trade. Wish he didnt live in Texas or HE would have fixed my car. BOTTOM line, Inwood is LINED with auto service shops. Find another one!!!!\r \r more

UN effing believable. almost 3 hours for a simple tow in the snow. DO NOT EVER use these people, it dawned on me their AAA calls they know they have the sale so they will chase after every private callout and leave the AAA people in the lurch while grubbing money from private callers. I waited so long for them to show up, the snow that cause me to get stuck in the first place MELTED from traffic and heat and I was able to back the car into a usually busy 2 laned access road, then make it up the short hill to my home. I called AAA to cancel and when I got it to rip Don Glo a new one, thats when the tow driver called me. Are you KIDDING ME? If you live in Yonkers, or lower Westchester, and AAA tries to use Don Glo, tell them you DONT WANT them, use County Towing North. I've used them before and they had further to travel and got there within an hour. Whadda bunch of maroons. :-< more

Editorial review from Citysearch 10/23/2012

Don Glo just gave me a tow.... so I see all the -ve reviews and thought I have to share my experience. First off, my vehicle cut out while on the FDR and AAA sent Don Glo to give me a tow. Had to wait a while, apparently due to them being busy, but they came in the end and the mechanic (Roger) was very polite and helpful. He didn't have any tools with him, or extra gas (aren't AAA supposed to always bring these things?) but nonetheless he looked at the vehicle and said it seemed like it just ran out of gas (although the gauge was not showing empty). Next day I get a call from Don Glo telling me the fuel pump needs replacing and it will cost $1000 !!! After some discussion they conceded that in fact the whole system is working fine expect the gauge is off. If I am happy to live with a faulty gauge then the vehicle is fine ! The discussion I had with Roger really helped in me not getting sucked into a $1000 bill. When I pick up the vehicle, yes the staff are a bit crude, but this is the bronx, that is how people are around there... nothing particularly bad about the garage staff. Had to pay $60 check-out fee ... I think that was fair enough - garages always pull stunts like this and to be fair they probably spent a few minutes looking at the engine once it was towed to the garage.\r \r So in summary, if you get towed by Don Glo, expect an OK towing service but dont' expect on the spot fix. Expect a quote for expensive work, but question it thoroughly. Expect gruff workers who mean no harm. Expect a $60 check out fee. more

AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS (LITERALLY) 1/19/2012

Thieves! ABSOLUTE THIEVES! They tried to charge me double what parts and labor actually costs (Got an out-the-door estimate from 3 other auto shops for HALF the price). There is a $60 minimum for just bringing your car there. $100 for having Don Glo tow your car elsewhere. Then they DAMAGED the khaki interior of my car by getting greasy, oily finger prints and smudge marks all over. They refused to compensate me and clean it. Office workers curse loudly, so don't bring your kids there. I am an extremely disgruntled customer, and I am posting this review on every website possible. more

THIEVES 1/19/2012

They tried to charge me 200% what labor and parts actually costed - Extremely over-priced. They charge a $60 minimum just for bringing the car there. The mechanics got greasy, oily finger prints all over my khaki interior, and they refused to clean it and compensate me for the damage. THIEVES. ABSOLUTE THIEVES!!! Also, towing costs $100, so find someone else. more

the best service in the world 7/27/2011

At 5 o'click pm my 2010 Nissan GTR on 180 and vice hit the curb, landed on the sidewalk and got 3 flat tires. within 45 minutes of calling don-glo for service they were there with all the equipment they needed and acted as if this happened every day. they knew exactly what to do and towed me to their service center at 409 W 218th st. They were able to get my tires and rims in a few days, handled my insurance and got me back on the road with a cheap price to pay and barely any time lost. they are a great service center and tow company and i will recommend them to ANYONE who needs a tow, or something fixed on their car. THANK YOU DON-GLO more

Don-Glo is Great! 5/23/2011

I truly do not know what these others are talking about. I have been going to Don-Glo on 218th st for 20 plus years. It is a family run business and have always treated me fairly and work was done properly. I can only think that those people not happy can be based on the saying cant keep everyone happy and usually a person not happy is much quicker to write than the many who are happy.Based on the volume they do and they have been around for more than 40 years. Be confident when you go there, they are and always have been good people providing great service. more

thank you don glo in yonkers 2/17/2011

i dont know what people think about but these guys are good in my book. yes i had to wait 30 min but im not delusional enough to think i was their only call or to think a service center has a 100 tow trucks to get to me in 5 minutes. i was treated with respect and courtesy. the next day i was called with the problem and price to fix it.the job was done in a professional manner.\r btw they are very busy and in business for 30 years, they dont do that if they have bad business practices. the problem with these reviews is that you dont hear from the thousands of satisfied customes just from a few who think they have had a bad experience more

Hands down the worst 2/8/2011

I have been a AAA customer for many years and it has been my extraordinary displeasure to have Don Glo as the only AAA service station in my area. They are without any doubt the worst station in the system. If you are stranded or need to get a car anywhere for any reason, I hope you are free for the rest of the week. If this is your AAA area, my suggestion is that you cancel your AAA account now and save up that fee for when you really need it. more

HORRIBLE SERVICE and a bunch of CROOKS 12/26/2010

I had my car towed there on a sunday morning, because I live in the neighborhood and there was no where else I could find open on a Sunday. What a HUGE MISTAKE, they said my starter (which they charged me $189.00 for, and after i researched I found out you could buy one for under $100.00 but they charge an extra $50 or $60 till you return the old starter, but not good old Don Glo, they were charging me $189.00 for the starter, even when I asked about the old one they return, I was told that the place where they buy parts from is expensive) was no good, which my husband just put in about a year before, the next day they say the ignition switch is no good and want to charge me $70.00 for a part that I got on my own for $32.00 and then they want to charge me additional labor at $85.00 an hour to put the part in. Then it's not that switch it is the steering column which they need to find the part and tell me I can return the switch, which I don't think is returnable. My husband called furious and talked to a manager and told him put our parts back in the car and we will take it some place else, which they robbed me for $150.00 for labor and a car that still was not running and I had to pay $80.00 to have my car towed somewhere else, where they told us the starter was fine and also the switch, just a piece on the ignition/steering column that was broken and we would need to get a steering column. The women who work there look up in the computer program for auto repair I guess and let's say if you have to put a starter in, it's says it takes an hour and a half, well they automatically charge you for an hour and a half labor at $85.00 an hour, even though it only takes about 15 mins to put a starter in. I have never in my life dealt with such CROOKS, they honestly rob you without a gun. I am filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau against them also. DON'T EVER take your car to DON GLO because honestly it is DON ROB. RUN FAR AWAY from this house of CROOKS!!!!! more

Don-Glo is dishonest 7/21/2010

I have known of Don-Glo for many years, so when AAA recommended it for an emergency tow of my wife's car I was pleased. During the tow the driver, otherwise competent and friendly, caught the door of my other car and bent the hinges, almost ripping the door off. He apologized. After we had delivered my wife's car to the shop, he once again apologized. I reported the damage to my insurance company and Don-Glo denied the whole thing, and even threatened to sue me for the damage! Do yourself a favor and choose another tow company. more

Long-time Don-Glo Customer 7/12/2010

I have used Don-Glo (West 218th St. Manhattan) for 7 years.I happened to come across this website when I was looking them up for something and was respectfully surprised to see any ratings under a five. I began using them in 2003 when I was given a ten year old Buick LeSabre with 144,000 miles on it, which needed different repairs at different times during the year that I kept it. They could have ripped me off all kinds of ways with a car like that and yet were very reasonable and conservative each time it needed something. I almost feel badly for them that I replaced it with a new Honda, which has only needed oil changes. I have also used them for AAA service, twice for a jump and once for a flat, and each time the driver was courteous, efficient, and only reluctantly accepted a tip. On one occasion i was stuck in the snow and they could not get me, but AAA called me back relatively quickly to inform me. I think they are the most honest shop in NYC. more

this happened in a town. not the middle of nowhere. 6/4/2010

On June 3rd, 2010 at 4 PM my car overheated and stalled. I was able to make it to a scheduled Dr.'s appointment for my 6 year old and called from the Dr.'s office to ask for help. I was told that a tow would be available in w/in 2 hours. I waited, with my 2 children and then called again. After 20 minutes on hold I was told there would be an additional wait of another hour. As we had spent 2 1/2 hours waiting, the Dr's office was closed and it was past dinner hour, I opted to leave the vehicle and take a train to our town. This was at 6:30 PM. At home (7:30 PM) I called AAA again to let them know what had happened. I was assured that there would be a tow person there by 8:10 PM. My husband, who was home by then, drove his car back to the Dr's office to wait. My husband returned home at 12:20 this morning, the tow having finally arrived at 11:30 PM last night. The operator insisted that had we not "cancelled" he could have been there by 8:45PM. He said that AAA had called him more

Don-Glo Auto Svc Ctr Manhattan is Dangerous 7/16/2009

They will tell you they fixed the car or changed a part when they did not. They let me go in the street with a car without brakes, after they supposedly fixed them. When there is a problem they turn rude and vulgar. Stay away from this bad bad place. more

Dangerous Place 6/25/2009

A few years ago, I took my car to the shop so they would fix the brakes. I left the shop and at the intersection my car would not stop! It had no brakes!! There was a fluid leak and they allow the car to go off the shop in such condition. more

A++++++ Very Helpful, Professional and Reasonable Prices 2/24/2009

My son's car broke down in the Bronx on a Sunday night- we are from NJ. The tow truck was there within 20 minutes and even though he was parallel parked, the driver had the car out in a couple of minutes. We left the car at Don-Glo to be looked at. They got in touch with me the next morning and told me what they thought it was and as soon as they confirmed it, they would get back to me. By mid-afternoon they had it diagnosed and fixed - AND - the price was very reasonable. They were very professional in every aspect, and I really can't understand where the other reviewers are coming from - sounds like sour grapes or a competitor to me!! Anyway, based on my experience with them, I would highly recommend them. I did my research and found that they have beeen in business over 30 years - if those other reviews were even close to true I can't see that happening. They are A+ in my book! Pros: Professional, courteous, reasonable rates, did their job in timely manner Cons: None that I could say more

Don't be in a hurry 11/29/2008

The towing part of this company I would give 5 star's.Driver's were prompt and courteous. My problem was at the repair shop. \r After they had my car for 3 days I went there and had them tow it to another garage . I did that because the total time the spent on my car was in 3 days was 1 1/2 hours. I was told that I had to undertand that they were very busy and had a lot of cars, What they didn't seem to undertand is that I am busy as well and I need my car to be fixed , or at least work on fixing it. \r They did agree to tow it to another garage. more

Terrible Service 11/15/2008

Very terrible service from beginning to end. After having waited for an hour after calling AAA, Don Glo finally showed up. The man towing my car was rude and inconsiderate and refused to help me try and start the car. He told me that if it had died on the road that there was no need to try and start it and that he'd take it back to the garage. After hesitantly leaving my car on a Sunday night at the shop, It took them 5 days to repair it. I called them on Monday in the morning and they told me that there were many cars ahead of mine and that they'd call me when they had looked at it. On Tuesday I called in the morning and they proceeded to tell me the same thing. By Wednesday in the afternoon after calling and pestering repeatedly I finally recieved a quote that was way overpriced for service and parts. The car was not even fixed until Friday evening. When I picked it up I encountered rude staff at the desk. They tried to minipulate my stereo and so it was locked. Overall DO NOT TAKE OR HAVE YOUR CAR TOWED TO THIS PLACE. YOU WILL REGRET IT!!! \r \r Terrible Service, Terrible Mechanics, Terrible Tow Personale, Terrible Customer Service, Terribly Overpriced. \r \r AAA should be ashamed to have these people hired. Cons: terrible service, terrible price more
