great instructors :) 6/14/2010

I was just walking down 2nd ave the other day and stumbled upon this studio. The desk girl was super friendly and showed me all around the studio. I ended up taking a tower mat class the next day and I left feeling awesome! There were a few advanced woman in the class, but as a beginner I felt totally comfortable and the teacher guided me along.\r \r I will definitely come back with my friend next time. Time to get in bikini shape! Pros: great workout, awesome staff Cons: none yet more

Terriffic Pilates Experience 11/17/2009

I've been coming to CFM for years! CFM offers true pilates instruction by highly qualified instructors in a calming and relaxing environment. The staff is always friendly and helpful. The decor is contemporary and yet soothing. It is an oasis in a busy city and whenever I leave I feel that I've received a total body workout and am energized for the rest of the day and night! Pros: Experienced Instructors Cons: Usually Need to Book In Advance more

Fantastic workout! Great Staff! 6/11/2009

I have been an avid pilates student for a few years now and recently moved to the UES. I was looking everywhere for a pilates studio when I found Center for Movement. This studio is fantastic! The staff is extremely caring and attentive to each individual they teach. They work with your body and make sure you get the maximum workout without hurting or straining yourself. I have definitely noticed a positive change in my body and in my strength. Pros: attentive staff, noticed a difference in my body Cons: nothing more

Not Just For ""Twenty Somethings""! 2/8/2009

Center Studio caters to people of all ages and as an almost Medicare eligible client, I will be saving the gov't a lot of money because of the healthy exercise I get. As a warm, friendly and welcoming place for those new to Pilates and those who have done it for years, Center Studio is the best place I have found in NYC and I have dilligently tried others. My instructor is smart, knowledgeable and very encouraging. She thoughtfully alters my exercises to relieve stress on an occasionally achy body part. I often go to the user- friendly Center Studio site to switch my sessions, add new ones and book times with other instructors. And all the instructors I've tried have been great. The convenient location in the Upper West Side JCC enables me to reward myself for my energetic and satisfying workout with a smoothie in the cafe downstairs after my session. Cons: Welcoming and skilled with all ages, men and women! more

The Most Rewarding Pilates in All of Manhattan 6/10/2008

As an avid Pilates student, I have not come across and studio that is as enjoyable, effective and beautiful as this one. The professional staff makes it their personal goal to challenge student, and attend to their needs/injuries. The inexpensive rates permit you to purchase a series ( which could consist of 5, 10, or 20 clases) The integrity of the method is preserved by the knowledgable staff, and owners ( who are also fantastic instructors) This intimate studio puts you at ease while engaging in Pilates Tower or Reformer Class. Be sure to check them out, for your experience will surpass any Pilates you have had in the past! Pros: Small class sizes, knowledgable and encouraging staff, affordable rates, soothing ambiance Cons: Can't think of any more

Best Pilates Studio 5/4/2008

What a great studio! This is by far the best and most professional Pilates Studio I've been to on the upper east and west side. Love the instructors and all the staff. I'ts a beautiful environment too! A great workout and many options to choose from. Pros: Everything Cons: Nothing more

A Great Studio 5/3/2008

Center for Movement is a great studio, with a flexible schedule, and warm knowledgeable instructors. I do no live in the city, but I work there and I try and squeeze in a session whenever I can. The studio has been more than accommodating and I have never had a problem finding a class that fits into my tight schedule. The classes are challenging but well worth the time and the instructors work hard to help each client reach their full potential. The personable atmosphere is one of the best features at Center for Movement. The instructors are very kind and give each client personal attention and the owners are always around the studios and show a true passion for their work. Center for Movement is a business that was created with love and commitment to people?s well being and it has stayed true to its roots since day one. Pros: Personable, challenging classes Cons: Can't think of any more

I'm getting what I want: consistently excellent Pilates instruction. 3/12/2008

Owned and actively managed by two highly qualified, educated, professional, competent and certified instructors who studied with Joseph Pilates? premier student ? Romana Kryzanowska ? The Center for Movement?s (CFM) 2nd Avenue (at 77th Street) location is their third since 1998, indicating their growing popularity.\r Their facilities are remarkable ? new equipment, constantly clean and well-lit environment, friendly and helpful staff and a group of qualified, certified, caring and friendly instructors who always explain what they?re doing with, to and for your body ? with sincerity and expertise. You get out what you put into any workout ? and CFM?s instructors help you work out hard, always ? always ? with the Pilates focus on core strengthening and breathing. I vary my sessions with different instructors as each one emphasizes different facets of the Pilates exercises, providing me a deeper appreciation of the techniques.\r Groups are small, and sessions vary from beginner to advanced, with enough variety and flexibility for anyone to attend their own level of workout. CFM?s equipment ? Mats, Reformers and Towers, are all Pilates-based. Privates are available, but I prefer the Group Tower Power sessions most, as they combine the best of both Mat- and Equipment-based instruction and workout, and I learn from the instructors? comments to others as well as to me.\r Males and females of varying ages ? even other Pilates instructors ? show up at any given session, and my experience is that attention is always given to those with special needs.\r I did a lot of homework (and visits) when I decided to attend a professional studio after practicing on my own for several years. CFM impressed me more than any other in the area. I?ve been attending CFM now for a few months, and expect to continue for as long as I?m able. Their prices are very competitive, their schedules are all day and most evenings, and I?m getting what I want: consistently excellent Pilates instruction.\r Pros: Always clean, friendly, competent, convenient, adaptable to skill levels, good equipment Cons: Give me time: I'll find one. more

Most comfortable environment I have ever worked out in! 3/6/2008

I went to center for movement because I am a student and received a discount rate. I had a great experience and will return many more times! This was my first time doing pilates and the instructor made me feel extremely comfortable and was very patient. Class size was small. It was also very clean, bright and happy! Go and bring a friend. more

NOT ""lost in the crowd"" group classes 2/27/2008

While searching for local Pilates in NYC I came across Center For Movement. I was interested in a studio to expand my knowledge of Pilates (having a background in Dance and previous experience). The studio is welcoming, the instructors are well informed and the class sizes are a perfect size. There is enough individual attentention that one does not feel lost in the crowd. In a convenient location (close to bus and subway) this a a great studio and highly recommend it. more

I am a beginner and loving this studio! 2/1/2008

I was a little nervous taking a pilates class for the first time in such an intimate setting, but the staff at Center for Movement eased my fears on the phone and I'm so glad I tried it!! The staff is excellent, the prices are very reasonable for such a small class size, and the workout was fabulous. We used the Tower, which is very intimidating at first, but my instructor was very helpful in teaching me how to use it correctly. I'm definitely going to start a pilates routine here and hopefully go beyond ""Beginner"" status! The class times are perfect also - it's so hard to find classes early in the morning, but Center for Movement opens at 6:45am with the first class at 7! I really enjoyed myself and am looking forward to continuing classes here and seeing results. Pros: class times, instructors, setting, tower mat classes, front desk staff more

THEY DID IT AGAIN!!!! 1/31/2008

This studio is a great compliment to the lexington ave. studio! Now I get to have great instructors, a beautiful studio, and the energy of a mat class. This is my beginnings, this is was got me hooked on pilates! I forgot how challenging a mat class can be. But even though it can be hard it can be done by everyone. Now we have the best of both worlds on the upper east side! The instructors are great, the set up of the studio is great, the staff is friendly and helpful, but best of all are the results! You not only look better you feel fantastic! You walk out of class 2 inches taller! I recommend this studio to everyone! more

Amazing Results! 1/16/2008

I came to pilates with very little knowledge and experience, and as a male I thought it would have very little to offer me. While I always associated pilates and yoga together, taking classes here has opened my eyes to the many physical benefits pilates has too offer. While I still enjoy practicing yoga, pilates has proven itself to give faster results and increase lean muscle mass, as well as maintain fluidity and flexibility. The classes are not only dynamic and fun, but all of the instructors are helpful and encouraging. The desk staff is also extremely helpful and the studio is very well-kept. I would thoroughly recommend anyone looking to get in shape, increase strength, or even maintain muscle mass and flexibility to take a pilates class at Center For Movement. more

Best in Manhattan 1/3/2008

Center for Movement on 2nd Avenue is truly an oasis of serenity where you can go for the ultimate workout! Aesthetically, this place is gorgeous. As soon as I walked through the door I felt the stresses of my daily life melt away. The lighting, colors, and just overall soothing ambience make it highly conducive to a great workout. All of the teachers are trained in the Authentic Classical Pilates method and really catered to my needs. From the very beginning my experience has been terrific. The front desk manager was so knowledgeable in informing me about Pilates and the studio even before I came in; my instructors since I have been there have been patient, insightful and have provided me with a sore tummy over and over again. The owner?s are truly passionate as well as extremely knowledgeable in what they do and that shows by the way they show such respect and care for each of their client's needs. This studio if phenomenal and I recommend it to everyone, especially those who are looking to shed their post ?holiday tummies; I am ecstatic with my results!!!!!!!!!!! Pros: Professionally trained staff, great brand new equipment, clean and inviting more

Beautiful Studio 12/31/2007

I highly recommend this studio if you want a really nice environment and quality Pilates instruction. The staff is great and there are a ton of classes. It's by far the best Pilates studio around. Pros: Great Space, very well-run, and authentic Pilates training more

Best Pilates & Gyrotonics Instructors 12/7/2007

I have been a loyal fan of one-on-one training at Center for Movement on Lexington Avenue for years. The new location on Second Avenue is just as friendly and focused on individual needs, but has added space for larger classes and offers a greater variety. EVERY instructor, with no exception, is experienced, patient, and always in a good mood. Donna, Elle and their troops have kept me in great shape and are always challenging me to excel. My husband is delighted with my increased stamina and flexibility! Pros: Excellent individualized instruction more

Quick Note on the New Studio 12/3/2007

All I can say about Center For Movement, is that I recommmend this place 100%. I normally take my classes at their Lexington Ave. location, but recently went by and tried the new studio. Donna and Elle did a great job making this new space warm and inviting. The original reason I starting going to CFM was because after a long day, I enjoyed their atmosphere and knowledgeable staff....the new studio provides that same comfortable environment! Pros: great classes, tower power mat, staff Cons: n/a more

Highly Recommend the Tower Power Mat! 12/3/2007

I noticed great results from all of my classes at Center for Movement. This new studio is perfect for me. I use to go to their other location around the corner, so this is even closer to my apt! The teachers are very informative and motivating. After every class I feel invigorated and stronger. These classes have not only built up my core strength but have also helped me with my back. A must go! Pros: Nice, New Studio, Great Instructors, Relaxing Atmosphere more

Best Pilates Place for Small Classes - A Real Find!! 11/30/2007

This place is a real find! I've been doing Pilates for over 12 years at health clubs, and this is soooooo much better!! Every instructor is extremely knowledgeable. They are all patient, and every class starts on time! The girls who run the Center are lovely.\r \r The place itself is beautiful, brand new, and ultra clean. The groups are small, so it's like having a semi-private lesson for the low price of a class. This is exactly what I had been looking for, a Pilates Center with classes, not just one-on-one, which you can also do here if you like.\r \r I highly recommend it! Pros: Instructors, ambiance, $ value Cons: None! more

Great for beginners 11/20/2007

As a newcomer to Pilates, I have been very impressed with this studio. The instructors are very patient and professional. They are supportive to beginners and very encouraging. I joined to improve posture and flexibility and they keep my goals in mind. The studio is bright and clean (even the bathroom!) - nothing beats a brand new facility. There are lots of classes, even more offerings than at some of the bigger gyms. more
